Advice on Tahoe area boondock spots...

... please

We are heading north from the LA area this Saturday towards Burning Man, but want to take our time stopping a few times along the way.

Does anyone have advice on a good spot to camp out in the Tahoe area? Doesn't have to be with lake view or any amenities etc., I'd rather stay in a hidden spot off the beaten path on BLM land or in the National Forest.

Thanks, any advice is greatly appreciated!

Anette

Re: Advice on Tahoe area boondock spots...

IIRC, (many years ago), if you drive N on 267 out of Kings Beach (north Shore CA) you can find some roads at Brockman's Summit and the Tahoe Rim trail Road. A little further up is Martis Peak road (dirt), both roads to the right. A couple of miles up and you should find a nice forest spot. You can then continue in 267 to Truckee and rt 80. Check out the map.

Thanks for the pointers, Jeffrey!

We still need to get together for tarantula and other critter scouting one day!

Reactivating this question instead of starting new thread.

I am heading to donner lake for labour day weekend. I have reservations for Thu/Fri and Sunday but I have a gap for Saturday night.

I was hooping to find a nice spot for the night. Like boondock spots. We never camp outside campground and we will camp w/ two kids. So looking for something nice and safe;-)

Thanks all

one place is along the Little Truckee River north of Truckee on highway 89.
or Prosser Creek Reservoir.
or Henness Pass Road west of highway 89 (one of the dirt roads heading away from pavement)

You might need a map to find land that is national forest vs. private??
Each of the above should has less traffic than Donner on Labor Day weekend, and each should have water.

Casino parking lots usually work fine if your low key.
