Calico - Halloween Weekend 2008

We are heading out to our top secret spot in Calico for Halloween weekend. If anyone wants to join us and a few other vehicles, please let me know and i'll give you details where. We'll probably head out Saturday AM (not early) arrive at camp mid day, maybe go explore and then head home Sunday mid day. Just a one nighter to get away from the daily grind. Probably burn a tri tip or some steaks, maybe even do a stew. Enjoy good company and trade camp stories.

Calico is just north of Barstow off the I-15. We camp primitive in the canyons over looking Mule Canyon. Pack it in pack it out.

If anyone wants to go, post up.. there's room for a few SMB's at this spot. The site involves a little drive skill and 4 wheel drive (nothing extreme). Also there's one spot that may be a slight off camber... but all is worth the nice view and peace away from the riff raff. The SMB's shouldn't have any problems with it.

Always is a great time.

Looks like we are going to flat tow our TJ (first time behind the SMB) now so we can wheel a bit. Use the SMB as a basecamp. We also are leaving Friday night and camping out near Hodge Road or Outlet center, then meeting a rigs on Sat AM near the outlets.

Saturday night we are having a IRON CHEF tri tip contest. Should be good eats in camp

If anyone wants to join us, feel free to email or PM me.

We're back and a had a great time. We received about 1 hour of rain on Saturday night and did some wheelin (almost got the SMB stuck) but nothing too eventful. I dont mean to "toot" my own horn... but i won the tri-tip contest.. like who else would?

Anyways, i'll get some sort of a trip report together... but for now here's a few pics..

Wow, with all that rain, I can see why you had the kayak rack installed.

Looks like a good time, I'm jealous.

Yeah, we towed the TJ behind us.. felt like it wasn't even there. Pulled 55mph up the cajon pass easily. Disconnected at the trail head and drove the rest of the way up mule canyon in the dark.

Herb, yeah... it was nice to have a place to relax when the rain fell... everyone else was huddled in their rigs starring at their dash boards.

Not a whole lot to say, but a good time like always. Flat towed the TJ out to the high desert for the first time with the SMB. The v10 didn't even know the Jeep was back there. Had a great dinner thanks for the Tri-tip competition we had. Ran a few trails, wheeled the SMB a little and got a little wet. Good times.

here's just a brief report...
