Thanks tons. I keep kicking myself that I never stayed in the hotel up there during the time it was open for that.
I wasn't aware that he was allowing camping up there, although I don't recall that I asked last time I was there since we were daytripping, and I was going over the other side. How'd that work? Be a very cool spot for a SMB gathering; I know 2WD pickups make it up there OK if they are careful; it's more an issue with things like brakes or trannies overheating than traction. So probably 2WD SMBs could make it.
Sure hope he can keep it preserved. You could have the Mother of all Ebay Auctions with just a tiny fraction of the stuff up there. I like it better than Bodie. And if you like Cerro Gordo, check out Berlin in NV near Austin.
