Very, very cool pictures & videos!

A trip up to Cherro Gordo is on top of my husbands' and my "must do really soon-ish" list.
Let us know when you are heading back up there - we'd love to join!!!

Re: Cerro Gordo mines and ghost town in Keeler California vi

Thanks tons. I keep kicking myself that I never stayed in the hotel up there during the time it was open for that.

I wasn't aware that he was allowing camping up there, although I don't recall that I asked last time I was there since we were daytripping, and I was going over the other side. How'd that work? Be a very cool spot for a SMB gathering; I know 2WD pickups make it up there OK if they are careful; it's more an issue with things like brakes or trannies overheating than traction. So probably 2WD SMBs could make it.

Sure hope he can keep it preserved. You could have the Mother of all Ebay Auctions with just a tiny fraction of the stuff up there. I like it better than Bodie. And if you like Cerro Gordo, check out Berlin in NV near Austin.

And thanks for the EVE video. Awesome. Will it follow your van?

2wd would be no issue in terms of traction. It's just steep going for 30-45 min.

You have to contact Robert, caretaker in advance. He appreciates donations.

Thanks for the kind words about EVE. She will follow anyone around with some bribery

Re: Cerro Gordo mines and ghost town in Keeler California vi

I fondly remember a trip to Cerro Gordo back in the early '90s when Mike and Jody lived up there. I went up with a troop of Boy Scouts and we did conservation work by digging out one of the shacks they wanted to restore. In return they let us stay in the restored "bunk house". If that wasn't enough Mike popped in after dark and proceeded to tell us ghost stories about the town, especially gunslingers and lone miners (the kind that would make the best ghosts, of course). I'm sure some of the boys that night didn't get a lot of sleep!

later,
jan
