Colorado trip

We are planning to go up to the Silverton area in early September.Plan on stopping by Chaco canyon on the way up and then doing the Alpine loop.Any other sights we should maybe put on our list ?We have been to Mesa Verde but may stop again on the way back. Also does anybody know if Colorado is picky on having mudflaps for out of state drivers? I know Utah is getting pretty picky anymore but do not know if Colorado is too.Any other thoughts or ideas are always welcome.

Thanks Wildhare

This isn't new information, but perhaps it'll be inspirational... Sportsmobiles doing Silverton & the Alpine Loop for the 2006 Rally:

Re: Colorado trip

If you are interested in Mesa Verde check out Chimney Rock. Not as much of a huge tourist site and very interesting. There is also additional hiking in the area if you are interested.

Re: Colorado trip

Thanks Tildadog , may have to check Chimney rock looks interesting. Thanks Geofff those are the kind of pictures I hope to be in. Anybody from Colorado out there know if I need to put mudflaps on for this trip? Arizona isn't picky about but I know Utah is how about Colorado?

Thanks,Wildhare

Re: Colorado trip

If it's any help, I drive my NM van with no mudflaps up in Colorado quite frequently and have never had any issues at all. That's not to say that the law allows it, only that it seems to be ignored. Mind you, Jage would be the person to ask, since he lives there.

Re: Colorado trip

Hovenweep is another really cool ruin like Mesa Verde, but absolutely desolate, no crowds. A decent bit of gravel road to get there but not bad. It's just an hour or so west of Cortez so that may be out of your way.

Re: Colorado trip

I have never had any issues not having mud flaps in Colorado. Or Utah for that matter.
However my experiences with State Patrol in both CO, and UT have been far less than stellar.
Must be those silly hats.
