Day in the Uinta Mountains of Utah

Drove up to the Uinta Mountains for a day of scenic beauty along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. This area is just 30 minutes from my home. I decided to bag work (I own the business) and enjoy some solitude in the mountains. It was a gorgeous day with very few people in the area. Saw lots of deer and elk.

The headwaters of the Bear River starts in the Uinta Mountains. The river travels 491 miles through Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and then back into Utah draining into the Great Salt Lake. Although it travels 491 miles, from its headwaters to its draining into the Great Salt Lake is only 90 miles away as the crow flies.

Headed off on a short dirt road to Christmas Meadows. It has been raining for a brief time almost every day this month so I got a lot of mud on my van.

One of many ponds in the area.

Bald Mountain

Mirror Lake. One of hundreds of lakes in the Uinta Mountains. Most of the Uinta Mountain Range is a Wilderness Area. There are scores of hiking trails that lead to isolated lakes throughout the area. Mirror Lake is right off of the Scenic Byway. It has a huge campground that is usually full in the summer. There were only two camping spots taken on this day: Thursday, September 6th.

Near the summit on the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. Another lake in the area.

View from the overlook at the summit of the Scenic Byway. The summit is at 10,700 feet.

If you are ever in this area send me a PM or email. Perhaps we can link up for some excellent camping in the Uinta Mountains.

Beautiful Country, thanks for the tour. I was glad to see in your sig that you have the 5.4 engine. That trip would be a little too far from my 6.0 PSD repair facilities for my comfort level!

On the contrary, it's only 1 hour outside of Park City - 1:15 out of Salt Lake City.
