Day trip to Driftwood State Park, Oregon

We decided to spend Sunday at the beach so we loaded up the dog and headed west. We landed at Driftwood Beach State Recreation Area just north of Waldport, Oregon.

It is a day use area so it fit our needs nicely.

Spent the morning on the beach. The afternoon was spent reading and sleeping in the SMB because the north wind was cool and strong. Shortly before 4:30 we moved north about two miles to Seal Rock State Park. My delightful wife and McKenzie headed off to the beach while I cooked dinner. After dinner we drove home.

We do not take many multi day trips in the SMB but we really enjoy the comforts of home on a short trip like this. Having a comfortable bed to nap in and an easy way to make lunch and dinner makes it very convenient way to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach. It cost a bit more in gas than our other cars but having the room to stretch out is wonderful.

I hit both those spots periodically. The van is the perfect beach-going vehicle in Oregon as the winds can often be miserable and it provides great shelter. Devils Elbow about 20-25 miles south is a little more sheltered from the wind if you havent been before. Nice Pics too.

Larrie,

A simple but beautiful day out is the primary reason my wife and I are building our Sprinter SMB conversion. It does look like you are probably a little closer to the perfect getaway day.

With all of the dream trips we plan on taking it is the day to day stuff that we will do the most.

Thanks for the little trip report.

Re: Day trip to Driftwood State Park, Oregon

Larrie,

Thanks for the trip report. We have not made it to the Oregon coast this summer so your nice pictures and story can remind us of other time we have been. We like to take day trips with our van as well and sometimes we just go someplace close to home for just one night of camping. On longer trips we justify driving the van by staying in it even boon-docking and thus saving on a hotel.
