Death Valley
I'll be in the Valley this Saturday thru early Tuesday. I'm determined to produce a satisfying image of the polygons at the salt flats at Badwater, and will be there every morning and evening. Plus, the weather may be cloudy or even stormy, a big bonus for me! I'll probably camp along the Westside Road or in one of it's side canyons. Who knows, plans may change once I'm there.

Enjoy the trip.
I've lived in SoCal all my life and have yet to visit DV.
I'm hoping to get there in early 2009.

Death Valley is one of our favorite places. We will be there in January sometime.
Racetrack is mystical! But, you can't walk out to the rocks after it has rained.
Barker Ranch, Goler Wash, Mengel Pass wonderful to see.
In the summer time, camp up at Mahogany Flat and hike over to Telescope Peak.
So many things to see and do, so little time.

Guess I better make a picture of me at that sign!
Mike, I've been to all those places at least once, some many times. This is probably my 20th trip to DV, maybe more. The hike to Telescope Peak is wonderful and long. Been to the Racetrack quite a few times and Saline Valley, and about everywhere there. You can see my images from many of those spots on my website. One thing I'm missing is a salt polygon shot. That's this weekend's goal, plus whatever looks good!

Yes, Dave, sort of. They are no longer true polygons such as the clean hexagons that formed between five and ten years ago. Now they are rather haphazard shapes as you've shown. They dissolve when badwater floods and reform upon drying. Last flood was in '05.
Here is my interpretation of two scenes from the Badwater Salt Flats, both images made this past weekend.
