East Coast Road Trip----1520 miles

Started: Friday May 24th

Day 1

We left home around 9am for the 5 hour trip up to Asheville, NC. We stocked up at the grocery store and topped off the tank for the trip up to Mt. Pisgah. We left 80* weather at home for the brisk NC mountain air. We also left our almost sea level home for Mt Pisgah at 5721’ above sea level. We were headed for a meet up with Folks from another forum. We had Chili for supper, later shared and campfire. We turned in early because of the chilly weather (which we were a little unprepared for) with an overnight temp of 38*.

Saturday May 25th

Day 2

We woke early to meet up for a hike at Graveyard Fields. We left camp and traveled several miles from Mt Pisgah South to the parking area. We hiked to all three falls, starting with the middle then the lower. The hike to the upper falls was challenging and we shed layers after the sun came out. The hike to the upper falls was more than expected. The hike offered great views with new friends. The hike ended up being 3.2 miles.

Back to camp for a nap while we waited for some of the others to arrive.

We shared a few cold beverages and a warm campfire. We stood around and told stories until after 10. Truly a great end of the day.

No worries! We went the opposite direction after here. We need to plan a long weekend up there somewhere.

Re: East Coast Road Trip-May 24th through June 1st.

Sunday May 26th

Day 3

Overnight conditions weren’t bad. A little cold but not too bad. Early morning conditions were cold and rainy. We had been discussing our trip and what we wanted to get done so we decided to break camp in the sleet and rain. We decided to leave Mt Pisgah and head North.

We made it to Mt Mitchell for lunch. Thankfully the weather cleared and it offered beautiful views. Mt Mitchell is the highest point East of the Mississippi.

Our plan was to high tail it to Doughton Park where we could camp for the night. We made it around 4pm (about 160 miles). We headed out after picking a spot. We went into Sparta, NC. We fueled up the van then headed to “The Pines” restaurant for dinner after a local's recommendation. Our first dinner that wasnt made in camp since we left. We stocked up on groceries and headed back to the campground-ended up being 40 miles round trip. We plan on leaving out early in the AM. Chasity didn’t like the bathrooms here and I kept teasing her about Freddy occupying one of the stalls. They were clean but they lacked any kind of light.
