El Camino Del Diablo

Another one for the record books. Good times as always.

Re: El Camino Del Diablo

Very cool. The write up and the photos were great. Did you expect to meet up with the blue toyota and group or were you going to do the entire trip solo? What was the entire length of the trip, pavement to pavement, in days and miles? Did you need extra fuel and extra water other than what was in the SMB tanks?
Thanks
Chris

Re: El Camino Del Diablo

We never run a trail that length solo. Always at least one other rig with us. The FJ guys we ran into were not planned.. however, i did know them. Small world. The trail is 120-150 miles depending upon which way you choose to finish, there's two ways out to the highway. We have the 46 fuel tank along with 10 gallons on the back. Our range is 600-800 so i wasn't worried. We have a 16 gallon fresh water tank along with 10 gallons spare on the back too.

Thanks for the kind words, it means everything to us.

Re: El Camino Del Diablo

Very nice. What’s the severity of the trail? I’ve heard about it and always wondered if it’s doable with a off road trailer. I always figured it was fairly mild run; sand more than heavy rock. Is that true? This has been more of those do it in pieces run rather than a single long run but if I could haul my trailer, hum…? I'm also curious about the possibility of flash flooding in the area even though it doesn't get much rain down there. What do you think?

Re: El Camino Del Diablo

People tow expedition trailers all the time. It's not a hard route. I would not advise to run it in the rain. It's do-able, but i wouldn't chance it.

Re: El Camino Del Diablo

About 2-3 Days to run the trail if you want to see the sites along the way.

Re: El Camino Del Diablo

Great trip report adventureduo. Sometimes I wish southern Arizona was closer to northern Montana.

Here's a different question for you; what is another name for a tri-tip steak? You grill a lot of them in your write-ups but I never see them in the meat department in our local grocery stores. Is it just a sirloin tip or london broil?
