First Over Night Trip to Whidbey Island, WA

Weather in Seattle has been great and warm, so we ventured out for our first over night trip to Whidbey Island. You can get an "island feel" without having to trek all the way up to the San Juan Islands. After loading up on some fish & chips from Ivar's at the ferry dock, we took the ferry from Mukilteo (~30 min. North of Seattle)(round trip fair is about $25 for the van). The ferry ride was only 20 min. to Whidbey.

First stop was Ft. Casey, what a beautiful place. It used to be a part of 3 fort defense system during WWI. Great views and a light house too.

Next, we checked out the camp ground near Keystone ferry, but they had no water, no flush toilets and no power sites. We were surprised how full it was for February off season.

Next, we went to Deception Pass State Park camp ground, but the ranger told us that they have been turning campers away for 6 hours! Luckily, we found an RV park across the street from the state park that had plenty of sites and very clean. We felt lucky to have found a spot to stay the night, especially with power (electric blankets came in handy).

Next morning, we had breakfast at the local Island Cafe and explored around Deception Pass. A great first over-nighter for the family.

Great first adventure. We have friends on Whidbey and hope to get up to see them this summer. We have never been there. Thanks for the photos.
