From La Laguna San Ignacio where we will be seeing the whales it would be really cool to drive along the coastal route to San Juanico (Scorpion Bay) which is one of our favorite places.

7 day folks 3/1 - 3/7/
For those who are thinking 7 days is all we can afford to escape, does it make sense to aim towards meeting at or near the US/Mex border rather early on Sat, Mar 1st? Being from Phx, there's a short cut we can take that saves us an hour. We're comfortable driving in Mexico (mostly 'cuz Karla speaks Spanish, and I'm just a bit ignorant) but we'd happily meet up with other 7 day folks at any border just to get the caravan started.
For any of you who have nothing better to do 6 weeks out but to plot and map a trip, or if like ne you just got the Baja Almanac, here is the BSMB's itinerary in abbreviated form;
2/27/14 - 3/7/14
02/27/14 Thursday 12 Noon - Meet on the USA side of the Border in Calexico, CA - Cross in to Baja through Mexicali, BC - Caravan down Mexico Hwy 5 to San Felipe - Camp on the Beach just north of town (2wd is no problem)
02/28/14 Friday - San Felipe Baja 250 Contingency - Hang out at camp or explore San Felipe -
03/01/14 Saturday - San Felipe Baja 250 Off-road Race - then on to Gonzaga Bay to camp for the night. The road to Gonzaga is paved all but the last few miles and is very scenic.
03/02/14 Sunday - Enjoy Gonzaga Bay
03/03/14 - Monday - Head south from Gonzaga Bay towards Coco's Corner; through Calamajue Wash - 2wd and others will continue on straight ahead to Hwy 1,- Next is Bay of LA and camping on the beach there for the night
03/05/14 - Wednesday - Experience the best sunrise in the world over Bahia de Los Angeles - Drive to San Ignacio - Explore San Ignacio - Visit the Mission San Ignacio - Head west to the Pacific, and La Laguna to the whale watching camps - Explore La Laguna - Camp there for the night.
03/06/14 - Thursday - Take the whale boats out to see the young California Gray Whales and their mothers - Head back to San Ignacio and prepare for the return trip.

I need to remove my name from the list unfortunately. My in laws are visiting that same time.
Thank for for the opportunity.

What's the difference between in-laws and outlaws?
At least outlaws are wanted.

Re: Get ready to get your BAJA on! 2/27/14 - 3/7/14
For those that would like to add some more dirt roads to the trip, I would highly recommend the road south from BoLA to Pta. San Fransisquito and out to Hwy-1 through El Arco. This will put you just under 60 miles from San Ignacio.
There are some amazing beaches and vistas along this route, as well as the fly-in 'resort' at San Fransquito that is a great stopover.
The road south of Bahia is chewed up in spots but we did the first thirty miles of this route down to Las Animas in June all in 2-wd and had a blast doing it!
