Headed to Oregon in 3... 2... 1...

Leaving on the 1st. Need somewhere to boondock outside of Salt Lake City, preferably West of.

Have a place picked out for the 2nd. Viejo's OHV area more or less outside of Reno.

Last I'll be hanging out in Wolf Creek from the 3rd to the 8th with the cat if anybody wants to visit.

Good times.

Re: Headed to Oregon in 3... 2... 1...

Jage,

I stayed in SLC last summer with the SMB for vacation/work and I have 3 recommendations.

1- Stansbury Island- close to SLC but far enough away, small dirt road leading out the the island, and plenty of boon docking opportunities.

2- Hwy 196/Skull Valley Road Exit just west on I-80. Head south and you will see a large hogback to the west. There are dirt roads all around this big piece of rock but it does get a little more traffic based on the proximity to the road. Not sure of the official overnight camping policy though.

3- National Forest to the west of Grantsville Reservoir- great area with little traffic, head back on the forest service roads until something catches your eye. Still relatively close to Toole and Stansbury for supplies.

I would have to say I like the Natl Forest the best and have stayed out there 3 times but Stansbury Island's location jutting out into the Great Salt Lake made for an amazing sunset!

Have fun!

Bummer Jage. I could normally do you much better than that as we live near there, but a family emergency has us stuck in Albuquerque for a few weeks.
Have a great trip!

Work has me buried that week plus jury duty. Otherwise I would come down for a visit.

Lots of cool stuff out there, but perhaps not close enough to SLC. Also check out Spiral Jetty, but that's north of the lake.
