My wife and I have been wanting to drive out to where St. Lawrence Seaway meets the first Great Lake and follow the shore line through NY, OH, up Michigan over to Mackinaw area, then follow Superior shore line to Duluth, then back home to IA....your location has sparked our interest in that trip again! Love to hear more!
If this cold snap keeps up, you'll probably be able to drive out three miles on the ice on Lake Erie, I'd imagine! :-)

On our 2015 cross-country trip, we came back across the northern tier through North Dakota, northern Minnesota across to Duluth, east along the Lake Superior shoreline through Marquette, and then across the UP to Mackinaw City area. Then home to PA. Really pretty country and well worth more time (it's on our "go back" list).

To CTW.

Please come. It is a smaller island called Put-in-Bay. Fun history with the majority of it being a tourist destination. It has been called the "Key West" of the North. It has a harbor and a downtown area with shops restaurants and bars. Ferry service to the island runs during most daylight hours in the summer and is about $50 round trip for a person and vehicle. It has a nice state campground with showers and bathrooms. You can and I have driven across in the Winter. I am too busy ice fishing to do much driving to the mainland as it is one of the best Walleye fishing spots in the world. Any and all who would like to visit let me know. I will help however I can.

Sadly one company has taken over almost all of the internet names and will direct you to its own commercial website. While very lucrative for them it does not shed the truth about the island. Here is the chamber of commerce.

Its always a pleasure reading the different forum threads - some fun, some enlightening, some instructive & informative, and always educational...
Came across the mention of Put-in-Bay and my curiosity got the best of me so used your link - looks fun & now a likely candidate for one of our stops for our 2018 travel itinerary. Thanks for mentioning it QuigRig.

For sure look me up if you do stop by the island. I know the local hangouts and best bars. It is a unique place and there are some cool spots close by on the mainland also.

We love Put-in-Bay and go there at least once each season. There is also a private campground which we like better than the State Park Camping area. Less kids and partying. They are a little hard to get ahold of but do take reservations. It is called Foxes Den. We found them on the Put-in-Bay Visitors And Convention Bureau website. Left a few messages and finally got thru. Also if you are planning on leaving on a Sunday AM be SURE to make a ferry reservation. We did not the first time and the line was several hours long.
