Re: I want Imogene

So this looks like a convoy, albeit a small 2 van convoy at this stage, with just Jage and I. Meet up in Ouray Friday or early Saturday to run the trail Saturday. Hope to find the time to do another trail as well on Sunday then home. Anyone else plan on coming?

Re: I want Imogene

My computer has crashed, seriously apparently, so I am pretty much out of touch but a brief report with more to follow soon I hope:

Jeremiah and I met up Saturday AM, started the trail, taking our time. Had a great and beautiful drive that was a bit rougher than I remembered it, but no problems with either van. Made it up to the last short stretch over to the pass summit by about 3 PM only to get stuck in snow when I had to stop for some motorcyclists slip-sliding and falling their way down the same stretch we were going to go up.

A bit of work and 3 hours later we were free of the snow but heading back down the mountain. Discretion seemed the most sensible thing. Three foot rutted snow with a loooooong drop-off on the side made me very nervous so we bagged it for another time. Great trip anyway and what a beautiful area. Will try to post fotos if my computer is revived.

Re: I want Imogene

running into snow up there would definitely change things, a lot. I shot the video that was posted at the front of this thread and it was a great run albeit on a nice day in July with nothing slippery 'cept for a rock face or two. There were two runs that year agt the 06 Rally, one from Telluride over to Ouray and then this one, in reverse a few days later. I've done it both ways and neither is too difficult except for a few of the obstacles near the top on the Ouray side. Love the altitude, not sure where else you can drive an SMB much higher although surely someone has. This particular group includes the beautiful and storied "yellow fella" later sold and then stolen and never seen again.

Re: I want Imogene

I did not like coming down towards Ouray at all. I outweighed witoke by 5,000 lbs and had to pick some weird lines to protect my lowered step rails coming down those obstacles at the top.

Also got to plug the CB, running on channel 19 I picked up Jeep chatter and wound up talking to people coming over and down the other way- a lot of vehicles were turning around before it got interesting, and nobody said anything about the snow until I talked to people on the CB- so we at least knew what we were in for at the top (albeit underestimated)

"...weird lines to protect my lowered step rails coming down those obstacles at the top..."

Hmm. What you need are some retractable steps that offer rocker protection yet aren't vulnerable to damage. Where o where would one find such a thing?

I want Imogene

I thought all SMB people were rich--or at least reckless with money.

Re: I want Imogene

Snow season already? I'm guessing the snow was a surprise, given the raised PH and the snow covered creeper.

Is that a compressor air line going to the SMB? Whatcha doing? More work on the shocks?
