Log Cabin Mine for the Persied Meteor Shower

Anybody up for camping above Mono Lake to view the Persied's? I am planning to go Tuesday August 11th, leaving San Diego in the morning after rush hour. The peak for the shower is 11th-12th so I might stay two nights. Maybe during the day go visit Bodie.
This is tentative, but on my calendar.

Re: Log Cabin Mine for the Persied Meteor Shower

It was a great shower. Due to the forest fires in CA I needed to stay south of Bishop CA to avoid the smoke, but had a great campsite at 7,000' with a great view to the northeast. There were some really good random meteorites that were spectacular as well.
Best, Bill

Re: Log Cabin Mine for the Persied Meteor Shower

My wife and her twin sister (lives in Barcelona Spain), along with our 30 year old daughter took our newest SMB (still 2WD) to Blair Valley in Anza Borrego but reported that it was not as spectacular as showers past - they had a great time in any case.

Can you guess why I didn't join them...?

Re: Log Cabin Mine for the Persied Meteor Shower

Ended up going for three nights about 30 outside des Moines...yep, pure corn and bean fields and pretty dark...best night was on Wednesday seeing about 100 between 12 and 3 am...about 10 of those were fireball types that were amazing....great show, best set up to watch yet... the top with blankets and pillows was awesome! I tried photography with the manual shutter mode and random luck...didn't get a shooting star, but a pic of a helicopter going by...don't know if you can see, but I'll attach..

Re: Log Cabin Mine for the Persied Meteor Shower

I spent a couple of nights at the Pinnacles OHV staging area near Lake Arrowhead in Southern California. I thought it would be far enough away and high enough to avoid the background lights of LA. I planned to get some great photos I saw a few spectacular fireballs, but all early in the evening before I thought the sky would be dark enough for anything to show up so my camera wasn't ready. Later on I saw about 20-30 smaller ones over a couple of hours, only one of which showed up in my photos.

While I was waiting, I thought I'd take a shot of my rig lit by starlilght.

During the day, to kill time between meteor shower viewings, I explored the OHV trails on my dual sport motorbike.
