Mammoth & Laurel Lakes

Midway through a Mammoth area trip with a visit to Laurel Lakes today. Having issues uploading all the images so threw a few snap shots in the folder below.

http://www.brenthaywood.com/Scenic-Stoc ... &k=w5mV26v

Been cloudy most of the time so far so just been bar hoping with the group before their big hike. Cleared for a few minutes last night just before sunset so took a few photos. Woke up early this am as the group went on their hike and I headed up to Laurel Lakes.

Ridden to Laurel Lakes many times on my moto and Polaris so I was looking forward to the first time with the van. The van purchase was partially intiated by a forum member on here who posted their pic up there years ago. Forgot who it was but owe them some credit.

Crawled up and made it in 3 or so hours. Had a beer and took a few photos and headed back down as a storm looks like it was heading in.

Currently sitting above the valley floor while it's raining writing this post. Decent reception up here. Going to spend the night up here and catch a sunrise. I am about 6-7 switch back up the hill from the main entry. Great view up here.

Only the last turn/switch back was an issue and had to jockey around 3-4 times to make it. All the others were tight but was able to make them the first time. Not having a spotter with me make that last turn a 10 minute ordeal. There are no second chances if you make a mistake there.

Good times.

Only a 3 point turn at the last switchback? I'm in awe! I think I did a a 7pt with an EB and still sweated. The worst part though was just the sound the loose talus rock fall makes. It just sounds like trouble. I was just up there last week but enjoy your photos. Post more please.

Re: Mammoth & Laurel Lakes

Charlie, I was surprised how tight it turned!! There is a possibility it could be done in two if I had a spotter and pulled nose into the wall on the way down. Letting the rear hang over the cliff made it much easier on the way up. Should have done that on the way down.

We're you able to access the folder with some of the other images?

Re: Mammoth & Laurel Lakes

Laurel Lakes is definitely on my list of places to visit, just not when towing my teardrop. Switchbacks where you have to back up are not my idea of fun with a trailer. Time to break out the tent instead.

Re: Mammoth & Laurel Lakes

Great looking pics, thanks.

I think that I passed your rig on Sunday coming down Lake Mary road from biking at Horseshoe lake.

The afternoon thundershowers have been great. Won't do Laurel Lakes on this trip, but have plans for a lot more biking and fishing.

Re: Mammoth & Laurel Lakes

Camped at the top of the switchbacks last night hoping to get a few lighting strikes but no luck. Rained until I fell asleep. Woke up about 3:00am to a clear sky. Took a few images overlooking the Mammoth Valley and when I was getting back in the van there were four deer standing perfectly still watching me. Great spot to stay. Heading back up the valley to get a photo I missed as the clouds came in yesterday. Good times…..

Rob were you in a blue SMB?
