Re: Meet and Greet at Valley of Fire, October 7-9,2011

We're now planning to be there as well. We'll probably set up on the 6th. Have to go to the Offroad Expo on the 8th. This might be the LARGEST SMB Forum meetup to date. Jage and Kim you've GOT to be there.

Re: Meet and Greet at Valley of Fire, October 7-9,2011

Do I have to book a spot ahead of time or will there be a little squeeze-in space if it turns out that I can get away? I really want to make the drive from Albuquerque but work has gone a bit crazy so i am really not sure if I can swing it.

Re: Meet and Greet at Valley of Fire, October 7-9,2011

witoke:

I will be saving empty sites on the day of arrival for people who let me know they definitely are coming. I've asked for their license number/state so I can pay the fee and then have them reimburse me when they arrive. I've also asked those coming if they are willing to allow another vehicle in their site should no empty sites be available. Most people have said yes. So late arrivals and spur of the moment deciders should have a place to stay. There also are plenty of boondock places to camp in the desert around the Valley of Fire. A few of the people coming prefer to boondock.

If you email or PM me I will give you my cell phone number so you can call or text message me if you won't know until the last minute whether you will be coming.

Hope to see you there.

Mac

Great big thanks! THANKS Mac for all the leg work and continued coordination.

What is your favorite sipping liquid? Some call them sundowners; I call it beverage by the fire.

Thanks for the offer CJ. I'm just a hard drinkin' water guy. Occasionally I fall off the wagon and have a strong glass of milk!

I will be coming in on Friday around 1pm instead of Saturday. This looks like too much fun!

Re: Meet and Greet at Valley of Fire, October 7-9,2011

Thought I would provide a few more pictures to let people know what to expect when they arrive at the meet and greet. So far we have 19 confirmed and seven other possible rigs coming to the event.

Here is what the Arch Rock CG layout looks like. I hope to be in campsite 18. I also hope to start saving campsites 1-20 first, unless someone tells me they want to be further away or they want to be in the Atlatal CG (so far we have one person wanting the hookups there). The campsites aren't as close together as they look. Campsite #21 is not as level as the others. Campsites 22-24 are very nice. Campsites 25-29 are pretty, and more shaded, but they often get the smell from the restrooms that have been moved from #24 to across from #25-26.

Here is what the circle looks like. That's my rig off in the distance to the left. The CG was closed today because very few people camp at V of F in the summer. I checked, though, and the CG will be open in October. And, if not, I can get them to open it for us.

This is campsite #2. Please note that there is limited shade. Please bring your own shade!

Campsite #28. This is the favorite campsite for my Boy Scouts because of the flat rock. They like to sit up there in their camp chairs.

The showers at Atlatal CG, a 15 minute walk away

Just outside V of F is St. Thomas, a town that was covered by Lake Mead and now is exposed due to the drought. The road to the trailhead is dirt, but very well maintained.

I'm surprised that we have no Sportsmobiles coming yet from Utah or Arizona. Where are you guys?
