I don't think they take checks. I doubt it. I'm glad you asked because people should come prepared to pay cash. And I agree that if we make it look like someone is in the site we should be okay.

Mac,

I think I've paid there with a check before. Or, maybe it was a different Nevada State Park. I frequently pay for public camping with a check. I just put it in the envelope and it has never been an issue.

But, I guess you need to know who to pay it to. Nevada Dept. of Parks??

Re: Meet and Greet at Valley of Fire, October 7-9,2011

Okay, I stand corrected. Good news! I just called the V of F and they do take checks. Guess I should have called them first before guessing wrong.

I also stand corrected on being concerned about not being able to save all of the campsites for ourselves. Upon reflection I realize that I would be very irritated if someone else bought up the entire campground and blocked me out of a fun camping experience. We'll just do the best we can and hope fate is in our favor and enough campsites are available to accommodate everyone.

Note to self: When holding a large Meet and Greet, pick a large boondocking location where there is no concern about campsite space.

Thursday night I will be in the boonies off of the xtraterrestrial highway. If I don't get abducted or fatally probed I should be in there Friday around 10-11am. I think being able to double up in a site will solve the problems for late arrivals.

How many get there Thursday and Friday morning?

Re: Meet and Greet at Valley of Fire, October 7-9,2011

Sorry for another post on this discussion stream, but I just got off the phone with a wonderful lady from the Valley of Fire. She called to tell me a group had just canceled their reservation for one of the group sites at the Valley of Fire. She suggested I book it as a plan B backup for overflow just in case we can't get everyone into Arch Rock CG. For $50 it was a no-brainer to have a fall-back plan. The group CG is only about a mile from Arch CG. We don't have to use it if we don't need it.

She also wanted to let me know that we CAN have two rigs in each site at Arch CG.

The bottom-line is -- sit back, relax, everything is working out, it's going to be fun!

kmessinger:

There are 7 arrivals on Thursday, 10 on Friday, 2 on Saturday and one getting there on Tuesday or Wednesday before even I arrive.

Re: Meet and Greet at Valley of Fire, October 7-9,2011

All is good.

I will be arriving sometime after the dinner hour and am trying to beat the dark..

Finding a spot to Boone dock in the dark is not so fun!! All in all after a five to six hour drive I could probably sleep standing up so no worries.

Thanks all for taking care of the details.

Hi Gang,

Looks like I'll be able to make it. I'll probably drive up Friday morning and stay until Monday morning. Have any of you driven south on the 15 from Vegas to Barstow on a Sunday night? Last time I saw it at that time of the week, it was hell to pay. Looked like a parking lot going into CA. Too many casino losers on the road. Watch out!

I'll be hanging with the group, trying to make meaningful photographs if the light is good, mountain biking and looking for a quiet spot to sleep. I generally don't do well in campgrounds for numerous reasons I won't go into now. Maybe there'll be some places just east of the park towards the lake to find isolation. It's only a few miles.

I look forward to meeting many of the forum members and catching up with some I know. Bring your guitars and whatever you have.....!

More and more campgrounds going to an online reservation sys. Definitely would help here. Any objections to a DIY-SMB sneaking in? We play well with others.
