Re: Moab 4x4 trails, Mtn. Bike Trails and Camping?

Well then, enjoy and maybe see ya at the Expo. Save some for Sedona or Flagstaff. Riding isn't too bad here either. With this winter, maybe the TWE will be a go in May. At least from Hazard down. Chk with Poison Spider or Coyote Shuttle.

As mentioned, if you end up doing Porcupine Rim, camping on the 128 at the Colorado River and paying one of the shops to Shuttle you is very convenient. The end of PR dumps you out on the 128 at the river (Negro Bill Canyon) and you can ride back to camp pretty easily.

Brent: I just PM'd you contact info for a Moab shuttle guy...

I know this isn't Moab, it's Sedona, but damn you won't see me volunteering to ride this trail.

While the feat is indeed impressive it's basically a party trick. The wide-angle lens makes it look much harder that it is which is not hard at all. Just high penalty for failure.

That said, my wife would kill me if she knew I gave it a go. This is my favorite vid. The rider is 51 and far from a "pro" rider.

If it's getting too hot in Moab consider skipping it and just come straight to Flagstaff instead. Here's a vid to activate the salivary glands. http://www.pinkbike.com/video/389061/

Joe, those look like good trials.........to hike! Guess I'm just not made to go that fast on a bike over trails like that.

For those of you on this forum that can, and do, ride like that, I'm impressed! You all have more skill and daring than I've got!

Happy trails to all of you,

Mike

Re: Moab 4x4 trails, Mtn. Bike Trails and Camping?

I second the La Sals. Really puts the whole geography in context. Not sure the Whole Enchilada will be rideable then.

Have you seen this:

http://utahmountainbiking.com/idx-main.htm

or this:

http://www.trailforks.com/about/skidmap/

?? All great resources for Moab although the Skidmap is not nearly as cool as it was prior to the merger.

Re: Moab 4x4 trails, Mtn. Bike Trails and Camping?

Hi --

I may be in the Moab area in mid-May. My mountain biking skills are beginner/intermediate, and I'll be riding alone.

For sure, the Bar M trails; I've played on that before without significant disaster. What else can you recommend that is for non-biking-Gods, and is used enough that another rider will find my sorry carcass if I go splat?

I've also thought about checking into guided group rides / shuttles out of Moab (trails or into the LaSals); does anyone have any info, pro or con?

I'll probably camp along U-128 in one of the BLM campgrounds, or head up towards Islands in the Sky.

Cheers,
GreyDawg

FYI, they have just barely started doing Porcupine Rim shuttle's to upper Kokopelli (where the LaSal loop road intersects)...
