Moab in June

Our plan for this June's trip is to spend a week in Moab, but I've only been their once and would like to start the planning now. What's it like in June temp wise, anything for that month we should prepare for, weeks/events to avoid, etc.? Crowded?

Jeremiah:

I would highly suggest you buy the book "Guide to Moab, Ut Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails" (2nd Edition) by Charles A. Wells. It's available on Amazon.com and has maps, descriptions and pictures of each road and trail in the area. It also tells about the weather and calendered events in the area. It's a great book. I'm hoping to use it on a trip to Moab, but don't know when I will get over there. Too many other trips planned this year already.

Have a great time,

Mac

Re: Moab in June

I might be passing through canyon country on a swing back from the west coast home the very first days of June. still working out details.

June can get pretty hot in Moab. No reason to not go, but it can get hot.

Then again, if you head to the LaSals or the Bears Ears, get some altitude, you'd be fine. I like the area in May, but others do it even earlier, in other words, beware the Easter Jeep Safari.

I did the White Rim Trail once in June and had a great time.

Re: Moab in June

We are planning a trip to Powell beginning of June, we might be able to combine our trips again. We went with some friends last year and they showed us some great spots nobody else was at, near the entrance of dead horse point, lots of space, and FREE! Takes the pressure off of having to secure a group site and getting the numbers to justify, unless there is a lot of interest, then we may want to secure that spot by onion creek again. Hope to see you there. Not as hot as it would be by middle of summer. Last trip in mid May was pretty mild.

Jage, what dates were you looking at? We are potentially looking at memorial weekend for Powell, in which case the 1st week of June would be great for Moab to be able to combine our trips, any thoughts. I am hoping to have the very first Pikes Peak Trailer built to SMB specs done by then and have it there to show off, hoping Dave the owner of PPT will show up too.

Yikes! But heck, you'll never know unless you try. Myself...I avoid it like the plague.

Re: Moab in June

So we have set our Powell dates, we are getting off the water Fri June 3rd and would be able to meet up in Moab Sat or Sun June 4th/5th- Wed or Th 8th/9th. Hope the dates can overlap when everyone else is there when this trip gets organized.

Oh ya, eat at Milts!

Re: Moab in June

I would expect that it could be 100 degrees in the day. The canyon walls build up heat in the day and by evening it's like being in a furnace.
