Monument Valley?

Making an overnight stop in Monument Valley on the way to Expo. Any suggestions for camping etc in the area? Any epic views from a campsite there?

Re: Monument Valley?

Navajo national monument is a real gem. Some tremendous ruins.

Re: Monument Valley?

Your on the Navajo Nation there so your best bet is to pay the fee and stay in their campground.

Not too far to the north is Cedar Mesa and Muley Point. There's dispersed camping as well as outstanding views with Monument Valley some 40 miles distant to the south and the goosenecks of the San Juan below.

Near Mexican Hat you can drive down to the San Juan and camp right along the river.

Re: Monument Valley?

We stayed at Valley of the Gods, UT a couple months ago. Nice place, not too many people.

Re: Monument Valley?

The main campground right near the View Hotel is now closed. The only other nearby campground is just a bit north on the main road rt. 163 and then a left turn to it. It's pretty basic. There's no boondocking on the tribal lands. You may stay at Goosenecks or Valley of the g's to the north.

That is correct, not a good idea. If you do and are going to be away from the vehicle for awhile leave it unlocked and a 12 pack on the seat.
