My Garmin App is trying to kill me

I bought the $50, 1.62 gigabyte Garmin app for my Ipad that has all the North American maps pre-loaded to the pad. I thought it was working pretty well until I asked it to map my route from Rocky Pass in Box Elder County, UT to Elko, NV. This evil b***h tried to send me on every dirt trail in northern Utah, estimating my time of arrival--after a 115 mile trip--as 17:03. It was 09:00. I'd be dead by now if I'd listened. I turned all the "features"--ie. traffic, dirt roads, etc.-- off, and it seems to be OK now. But for how long?

You have it set to shortest distance maybe?
