Here are some pictures from our resent week long trek through Nevada.
We got a late start from Arcata and only got as far as the Lassen NF
east of Redding the first day.
First nites camp site. Still patches of snow on the ground.
With temps in the low 20s, it was a 3 dog nite but we only brought 2.
The next day we headed south through Susanville, Reno and Hawthorne
The town of Sodaville. Yes - the sign says "Lobster Crossing".
The second nites camp was in the mining ghost town of Candeleria
The next day in Beatty, we saw some wind turbine blades on their way to a new home somewhere.
Luckily we were able to get a spot in Red Rock Canyon campground just
outside Las Vegas for a 2 day family visit.
Leaving Vegas, we headed back up Hwy 95 to Tonopah and then east and north
for some real boondocking.
We were just a few days too early to see some tiny button cactus in bloom.
Pronghorn antelope
We stopped at a favorite hot spring in Monitor Valley.
Up to my neck in hot water, just the way I like it.
6th nite out, we camped in Trail Canyon near the Monitor Ranch.
The next morning we visited another favorite hot spring; Spencers
in the Big Smoky Valley.
Saw some more antelope.
Passing through Austin, we stopped to visit the
Austin Angel in the pioneer cemetery.
7th nite camp was at Big Den Creek near Eastgate.
We hiked down into the creek for some bird watching.
Camp 8 was back in the Lassen NF about 1/4 mile from our first campsite.
