The USFS release is written terribly, and titled 'Fire Restrictions in Western Nevada' but also mentions California. And says 'Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest' have fire restrictions.
The forest also has an 'alerts' page, but of course the Bridgeport district isn't mentioned there, while several others are.
But my interpretation is no fires. Damn, I was going to slow smoke a pork shoulder over charcoal on Saturday for everyone to share. Oh well.

Re: NorCal Sierra 4x4 Meet
Gas grill should be OK. I'll just miss sitting around the fire.

Yes, but you can't smoke for hours and hours over gas.
And sadly, we might as well get used to a lack of campfires.. it's gonna be a few years before we get out of this.

Re: NorCal Sierra 4x4 Meet
We will be leaving the Bay Area Friday morning so we should be there mid-afternoon. We also plan to stay beyond Sunday, how long, we won't decide until Sunday or so.

Re: NorCal Sierra 4x4 Meet
I maybe interested in going but I'm one of the 2 wheel drive guys, If I have trouble getting in
can one of you lend a helping hand(winch). Is their cell service.
How about guns, I would love to get a little target practice on my 22 and 9mm.

Re: NorCal Sierra 4x4 Meet
Not sure how the road is this year. There are a couple of creeks to cross and one CAN have a nasty departure angle (I've drug my tail through it) but was graded a few years back. I'd say if your van is lifted to tag up with a 4x4 rig on the way in. Low profile vehicles might have a problem but even then, it's surprising where a 2wd van can go. I might go up this weekend to take a look and can post back.
As far as guns, I'd call the Bridgeport Ranger district. I've never seen anyone shooting up there. Up the pass and on the other side of 108 is a different story. The marine base is there and shooting is allowed provided it's against a bank and safely done.

Re: NorCal Sierra 4x4 Meet
I'm getting pretty excited about this trip, does anyone know if the Army mountain training area is open to the public, sat. pictures show no gates at the base. I would be interested exploring the trails above the base.
One of my favorite activities is exploring military bases, last few have been Fort Hunter Liggit and Fallon Naval air station.
Thanks Dave

Re: NorCal Sierra 4x4 Meet
I would suggest this spot and I might even see you up there. It's not far off 108. You'll see it as a spur off the trail but you can camp W/O having to make the huge climb. The main route to the top is rather steep and requires a low range 4x4 vehicle but the easy section (visible in the lower pic) should be doable with a 2x4.
