Re: NorCal Sierra 4x4 Meet

Yes that spot is located not too far from 108 on the Silver Creek trail and the picture is from a year or two ago. Doubt there is any snow this year. I didn't make it up the hill this weekend. Sounds like you guys are roasting over there...was 104 here. It's a mild 101 right now at 7PM.

Re: NorCal Sierra 4x4 Meet (PLEASE READ UPDATE)

UPDATE:

I've been informed that the opening of the Leavitt Lake trail was done illegally and the Bridgeport Ranger District has closed the road until further notice. The scheduled opening is possibly the weekend of June 14th OR June 21st.

The Rangers are upset of the breached gate and are taking their time in opening the trail. The Marine Corp is currently working on the trail preparing for the season. I will be in contact with the Bridgeport Ranger District on the 12th for further information.

Sorry about this. If the lake is closed there is good camping off the Eagle Meadows road along Long Valley Creek. I can post maps of the area. There are some other backup spots such as those at Green Springs off 395 or a few spots along the Silver Creek Trail. Hopefully the Leavitt trail will open this coming weekend and I will post the conditions. This is considered late for Leavitt especially due to the drought. Fire restrictions are in place and only gas grills/fires are permitted.

I’d like to get a count on how many plan to still show up if the Leavitt Trail is closed. For now I’d like to consider Long Valley but anything can be changed. There are several campgrounds to also consider.

I will try to PM each member who has showed interest.

We're in either way. I can live with Long Valley Creek.

Re: NorCal Sierra 4x4 Meet (PLEASE READ UPDATE)

I'm gonna play it by ear.

There is a Boon Dock spot towards the top of the pass that would hold several vans but it's just off the highway by probably 200 yards.

If I recall Long Valley creek is about 5 miles from 108.

I plan to go up on Saturday (Father's day weekend) for the day if they say Leavitt is closed. I want to see how many fathers are invading the Long Valley area. If it's fairly open my guess is it will be fine the next week.

I don't have a 2M radio but will have a CB set to ch-5. I hope no matter what happens this meet will take place...I'm going no matter what happens.

Fun on the trail. I do want to get a 2M FM rig one of these days. Almost took the test about 10 years ago.
