Are you looking for civilized things to do (museums, attractions,...), or are you looking for camping adventures (mountain areas like Big Bear)?

I'd prefer the mountain areas route. Any ideas?

Re: NORRA Mexican 1000

I'd ride down the coast, Hwy 1 for SoCal beach towns, and spend one more night in somewhere like New Port Beach (in a Hotel) then south to San Juan Capistrano area and east on the Ortega Hwy (74) to Lake Elsinore and Interstate 15. Then south a little ways to Hwy 79 and head to Warner Springs, Santa Ysabel and Hwy 78 East to Julian in the mountains and the down the 78 into the desert.

Alternate plan to Julian: Head south to Carlsbad, stay at our place, or the State Beach just down the street. Take 78 East to Julian and into the desert.

You can check out Anza Borrego Desert State Park, Salton Sea, Colorado River and head to Mexicali.

Re: NORRA Mexican 1000

I'm liking the route 74 idea. What is tha campground on the north side of 74 just short of lake Elsinore like? Blue Jay Campground?

Don't know the campground. Ortega Hwy is a Moto favorite!

Re: NORRA Mexican 1000

My plan is to find a hotel room in either calixico or Mexicalli tonight. I ended up in westmoreland last night after ranger Ricky at borrego springs state campground convinced me the park or the town of borrego springs didn't want any of my tourist dollars. He was a youngling and I hope he learns some manners sometime in his life.

On the bright side all I got was a warning ticket for riding my motorcycle in the campground without a helmet. He shouldn't have made me walk over a mile in the desert heat to get the helmet I had left at the campsite while I rode back to pay my fee. After 9 nights in a tent the air conditioned hotel room was a nice treat so maybe he did me a favor.

Re: NORRA Mexican 1000

We made it down to Cabo yesterday, even though the race truck(s) we were to support didn't make it past the 22 mile mark and the V2 of the same entry broke down in San Igancio.

We had a great time hanging out with John, who headed north after Loreto (John, the party in San Jose del Cabo was epic) and I think he will agree that this is an adventure to be placed on the top of your list.

Without a doubt this trip will be burned deep into the memory banks as one of the best trips I've ever done. The people associated with this type of racing are a blast to hang out with. I met so many super nice people. I felt like I was part of their family.

Ramsey, you are a lucky man to have so many top notch and classy friends.

I'll post pictures and put together more of a trip report when I make it home and sort through the 2,000+ pictures I took.

I've spent the last 2 days riding north from Loreto with Tad and Gaila who have been out on their motorcycles for over a year. We are headed up to Mikes Sky Ranch tomorrow. Check out their story and adventures at http://www.overlandnow.com/

More to follow

Re: NORRA Mexican 1000

Sorry to miss you John. By the time I thought to call we were in Mexicali already and our phones off.
Been in Mexico two weekends in a row and 750 miles in the class 5.
Mikes the first weekend and down as far as coco,s during the 1000 ( I had issues with the baja and had to turn back).

Otherwise cervezas & dancing girls.
