We took off from the Expo early and left mid-day on Saturday. We took Schnebley Hill Road down from Flagstaff to Sedona and then beelined back to San Diego. Schnebley was in far worse shape than I remembered. Likely the Jeep tour companies are asking them not to grade the road so they can keep shuttling people up.

The Expo was a great time but a bit overwhelming. Lots to see but no real deals to be had that I could see. I spent a lot of time looking at the trailers and was pretty impressed with a few of those.

Thanks goes out to Sportsmobile for allowing us to stay in their village. It was a much calmer area than the rest of the camping areas and was a nice break from the chaos of the show. I loaded up some pictures of things I found interesting here. Arranged in order of how they were shot. The large Earthroamer seen in one was listed at $1.5M. They weren't letting people into that one.

Yeah, I saw that guy riding it around. Looked kinda dumb to me. Probably just made something goofy for fun. I made it out for 4 hours on Friday. The show has gotten huge. That's about the max I can take.

I found what Beartooth is doing for van interiors very nice and this prototype 4x4 Sprinter conversion quite interesting. Dana 60 on the front and a D70 on the rear. When he goes into production mode he's spec'ing a Dynatrac Prorock 60 on the front and the beefy Dyntrac 80 on the rear.

I think that's for stability in slow speed terrain. Thick snow, steep climbs, etc. I'll be sticking to my single front wheeled fat bikes. He's a blurb on the design:

I agree with the above, great show, great people, great rigs and products, but looking at Overlanding rigs is a lot different than using Overlanding rigs, especially when we are already driving the rig of our choice.

We pulled out early Saturday afternoon also. Sunday morning found us driving Titus Canyon in Death Valley and by Sunday afternoon we were in the Alabama Hills just outside of Lone Pine off 395. GREAT way to conclude the trip to Expo!

My head is still spinning!!! Sooooo much info., Sooooo many ideas, Sooooo under-budgeted for what we would like to do. We spent a good share of the ride home discussing various ideas for the van and agreed that we did a pretty good job of not impulse buying (we almost bought a trailer on Saturday) as the prices seemed a bit high on just about everything.

It seemed like almost every vendor was giving the standard %10 "show discount", something you can get at pretty much every holiday blow-out sale or by signing up for a newsletter. My wife checked a handful of items we were interested in and found that we could get them cheaper by using our Amazon Prime account.

We will be back next year, but will do things a bit differently.

I need to think about something else for a few days. Then I'll start going through all the info. we collected and all the pictures we took and get back to laying out our build.
