Re: PNWSMB Forum Summer Camping Trip

We'd be a firm probably in September and an maybe in August.

I'm actually heading into that area this weekend. I'm playing sag wagon to some friends on dual sports. We're going to head across from Greenwater on FS 70 and 19 to Kaner Flats, then probably north towards Wenatchee. I'll keep my eye open for good camp spots for a bunch of vans.

John & Dana-Hey guys, Alex, Lake and I are looking at joining the meetup to Zion/toroweap/grand canyon. I noticed you posted over there about joining as well. Don't these PNW meetup dates coincide with that trip. Would be great to catch up if you made it.

Re: PNWSMB Forum Summer Camping Trip

Being a lousy uncle I forgot my nieces birthday is September 18th. I'm sure there'll be a party that day. Depending on when will obviously affect when we'd get to Rim Rock Lake and who from the family would come. Hopefully it won't be too late in the day. August 28th is looking like a good option for us now, and we'd probably be able to make a longer trip of it. Basically, we'll work hard to be there on either date.

It's getting close enough we might want to put it to a vote -- or poll -- and pick a firm date so folks know what to plan on. At the moment I'm leaning toward the August date, personally, just because it's sooner.

John, I have to say I love the location. I haven't been to Rim Rock Lake yet, but have been wanting to get down that way. The idea of driving into the slide area has a lot of appeal as well. I took a solo trip down to Oregon last fall and took 410 on the way there but had to detour on the way home a couple days later because of the slide. I'd be very curious to get in there.

The trip with my dual sport friends was fun, but it had to be a day shorter than originally planned. We didn't get as far south as I was hoping so I can't contribute any back up camping spots. Probably doesn't mater if John is going to stake out our spot ahead of time. We did find a good group spot in a meadow about 5 miles north of Whistlen' Jack's on 410 for another time. We spent one night on Little Bald Mt. It'd make a lousy group spot, but is a great destination for one or two vehicles.

Re: PNWSMB Forum Summer Camping Trip

I just re-read all of the responses and it looks like September was best for everyone except Velogeo who could still possible make it that weekend.

Dates: September 17,18 & 19.
Location: Off forest service road 1070 on the South Fork of the Tieton River. The GPS coordinates are N 46 30.576 W 121 16.310
Directions From WA Hwy 12 turn onto Tieton Reservoir Rd. (This can be accessed from either the East or West end of Lake Tieton), Follow this to the South Fork Tieton Rd, at FSR 1070 turn right and follow to the bridge over the South Fork of the Tieton River. The campsite is located on the right just before the bridge. When I was there last year this was easily accessible by 2wd.

Here are several maps that may be helpful:

We will be arriving on Thursday to secure the spot and staying until Sunday or maybe even Monday. Feel free to come for any or all days.

I would love any suggestions of things to do in the area or day trips we could take.

If you can make it please let me know what days you can be there.

Cheers
John

Re: PNWSMB Forum Summer Camping Trip

John,

It looks like fun however I am the coach for each of my girls soccer teams and the season is starting.

I'll potentially come up for Sunday (day only).

Thanks for pulling this together.

Re: PNWSMB Forum Summer Camping Trip

Hey everyone,

Reading through the responses it looks like most people can't make it next weekend, unless I missed something right now we only have two maybes. As it stands right now I think we should cancel this weekend and try for another date maybe October or next spring. Any imput?

John
