Racetrack, Death Valley Group Trip - October 28-31, 2016

Three years ago, several of us took a trip to Racetrack in Death Valley. Here are the forum threads:
Thread 1
Trip Report
After talking with other Sportsmobile owners during and since Overland Expo West, I think it is time to return. My schedule is not flexible this year, so I am proposing it like, "I am going on this weekend. Who wants to join me?" Here is the plan:

Friday Oct. 28: Meet and camp overnight at Panamint Springs Resort
Saturday Oct. 29: Drive to Racetrack via Hunter Mountain road and camp at the site south of Racetrack.
Sunday Oct 30: Drive back out via Hunter Mountain road and optionally camp overnight on top of Hunter Mountain.
Monday Oct 31: Return home. Or not. Who am I to tell you what to do?

Hunter Mountain road is 4WD recommended, though last time pinz712 seemed to have no trouble in their 2WD Ford van. Racetrack road from Ubehebe crater is a 2WD alternative. Our route takes us on Racetrack road from Teakettle Junction south to Racetrack so we can avoid its terrible washboard-y-ness as much as possible.

If you want to go, make a reservation at Panamint Springs Resort. They have RV Full-Hookup sites for $35 and RV No-Hookup sites for $20. Also, send me a PM so I can add your name to the list of attendees.

Post any questions here or feel fre to send me a PM. I hope to see you there!

Sounds cool. I will keep it in mind (already on my calendar as a maybe), but I have to see how my work situation will shake out in our corporate reorg in the next couple months. Would love to check out that area and have some company!!

Thanks for posting!

Tempting We will have just gotten back from a church seminar in Minneapolis the weekend prior to the trip so doubt we will be able to do it. Would love to tour DV but will need to do in in Feb or March.

Hi Steve...Can't go this year but you brought back great memories. That was a fun trip. My new Sprinter is in the build mode and I may have her finished by October but have a conflict the weekend you are going. Have fun.

Hi Steve,
Put me down as a maybe. Had a fantastic time when we did this a few years ago.

Eric - Can't wait to see your new rig, though since you only live a few miles from me, I shouldn't need to wait that long, right?

Chris - Sorry I'll miss seeing your new rig. Those Sprinter 4x4's look awesome!

I am having an issue being able to edit my posts. Once resolved, I'll be able to update the attendee list.

Can't wait to get this project finished and on the road. Plans could change but for now we are still not able to join you.

We should have a BBQ at my place with a few local members. Skyrat is also close.
