Thanks for keeping us in mind.
Things re: work turned to crap for me. I'm hosed. Thought I'd be back west, but I am still trapped in the MIDwest and don't have the time off to use. Might even be all the way on the east coast by then... crap.
Damn... I was hoping to do this...

We are still planning to go, unless my jury duty runs beyond a week.
The e mail address you gave me didn't work.

I've reserved my spot at Panamint Springs and need to know...Is this a good newbie to SMB camping adventure? I've been to Baja (coastal) and Mammoth but never straight out into the desert. I've driven around Crater Lake but truth be told - I don't do heights and drop-offs very well. (Serious clenching (: ) also some idea of what should be brought along. Thanks!

It has been a few years but my recollection was that this route was pretty tame. Pinz did it in his 2wd van. It is a rough dirt road so something more robust than stock tires are recommended but as far as I know the only unpleasant part will be the stretch of Racetrack Road we can't avoid. It is a very rough washboard road but we won't be on it for long. I wouldn't worry.

Hello Steve,
John and Diana would like to be added to the tentative list.
Nevada Day events may get in the way...
Hunter Mountain earlier this year was a great road and so much better and scenic than the corrugated Ubehebe road.
Enjoy,

It should be an easy adventure for a newbie, and a great one at that. The road into Racetrack is a small slice of hell, (washboard) but I've seen rental cars on it and they survived. Just take it slowly and you will be ok. Now if you want some real adventure, take the Lippencott mine road out of there. Well, on second thought, with your fear of heights, perhaps not. Have a great time, wish I could go.............
