Racetrack, Death Valley Group Trip - October 4-6, 2013

This will be the official thread for the group trip to Death Valley and (hopefully) Racetrack. The date is set for October 4-6, 2013. Here is the proposed itinerary:

Friday Oct. 4, afternoon: Arrive at Panamint Springs Resort. Meetup and camp.
Saturday Oct. 5, morning: Break camp and drive to Racetrack via Hunter Mountain Road (Google Map here).
Saturday Oct. 5, evening: Arrive at Homestake Dry Camp and camp.
Sunday Oct. 6, morning: Break camp and drive back to Highway 190 via Hunter Mountain Road.

Recent floods have closed many of the roads in Death Valley. The roads for this trip do not appear to be closed, but the overall warning for all backcountry roads is to use caution for possible flood damage and very rough roads. I will keep you up to date if anything changes. The goal is to reach Racetrack, but there are many other places to explore in the area if we can't make that work.

If you are coming, please reserve a site at Panamint Springs Resort for the evening of Friday, October 4, 2013, then post here that you are coming. You can reserve a site at their website: http://www.panamintsprings.com. I reserved an RV Dry Site for myself, but they have full-hookup sites available as well as tent-only sites which will work but might be too small.

Post any questions here or feel free to send me a personal message. Hope to see you there!

Steve in L.A.

Just giving this post a bump. Though the roads might be a little rough due to July's flooding, as of today nothing on our route appears to be closed or impassable. It looks like it will be a fun trip!
