Yeah, the racecourse comes down pavement then turns off into dirt alongside the highway at Rancho Grande. Easy viewing spot.

Try this link for info.....

When we took our 3 big dogs down years ago, we got them all checked out at the vet, papers and documents put together in a folder. I don't think anyone asked for to see anything the entire month we were there, in fact, when they saw 2 100lb chocolate labs and a 100+lb german shepherd in the back, they just waved us through at the border, nobody wanted to mess with them, or us. We did have a few checkpoints that they had us leash up and take them out, but never asked for paperwork. But things may be different now.....best to have everything lined up either way.

I will post this here and also start another thread just for the topic:

Mexico Vehicle Insurance: I was able to qualify us for a Group Plan with a highly rated insurance broker, Lewis and Lewis.

DISCLOSURE: THERE IS NO AFFILIATION WITH THIS FORUM'S MANAGEMENT/OWNERS AND THEY NOR I RECEIVE NOTHING FOR POLICIES WRITTEN THROUGH THEM. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH, NEITHER THE FORUM NOR I ARE ASSUMING ANY RESPONSIBILITY AT ALL.

Okay, that being said, here is what I am doing, again you do your own research and what you want. I will be getting my Mexico vehicle insurance through Lewis & Lewis.

In doing my due diligence, L&L receives many kudos and supportive reviews amongst the Baja /Mexico groups. That was number one. The policies are written through Qualitas, the largest insurer of vehicles in Mexico. You can find out all the details here: https://mexicanautoinsurance.com/

A number of things made them attractive. They offer high policy coverage levels, they offer ala carte riders, they have limited geographical states (Baja and Sonora). Their rates are very competitive. All good. What also caught my attention was they have a Group Plan 10% Discount!

I contacted them to see if we could qualify and Jim Lewis was kind enough to allow us to apply for individual policies under the Group Affiliation and receive the 10% discount.

Yeah! You can apply online or via written application which is scanned and faxed, or mailed. If the Online Application is used, then make sure to type in the word "Sports" in the "Affiliated Agent" box. The written application already has the Forum Name pre-populated.

Written Application: A FILLABLE Mexican Auto Insurance Application LONG TERM Revision 170606.pdf

How the 10% Discount works:
Fill out the application either online or written, submit.
Pay full premium.
10% refund checks are calculated and mailed out once a month.

Hope that helps some of us. Let me know if any questions or give L&L a call.

Yeah, its official now!

I just purchased through the online form from them yesterday after getting the info from Ray last week, pretty straightforward, competitive rates for sure and the added bonus of the 10% discount, thank you Ray!

I just added the VIP package from the options, which is a 15% surcharge from the base premium, this covers partial loss from vandalism-broken windows or other damage to the vehicle short of vehicle theft. It does not cover theft of contents, that would be covered by your homeowners policy, which I am going to check if I'm covered in other countries.

Also, looks like the temps are starting to go down a bit from what they've been, a welcome respite for sure.
Jeff, might want to reconsider those expensive purchases after all......

Driving to Mexico With Pets
View a template of an Accredited Veterinarian Certificate, created by the USDA, that meets current guidelines outlined by SAGARPA in January, 2017.
Do we need any special documentation to take our dog and cat to Mexico?

Yes. According to SAGARPA, an acronym for the Mexican government's Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca y Alimentación, and the USDA, in order to cross over the border into Mexico with pet dogs or cats you will need to carry:
An Accredited Veterinarian Certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian who has examined your pet no greater than 10 days prior to travel.
View a template created by the USDA.

Make sure the Accerdited Veterinarian Certificate meets the updated guidelines, as outlined by SAGARPA on January 18th, 2017:
Proof of vaccination against rabies and distemper, administered at least 15 days before your pet enters Mexico, along with expiration date.
Confirmation that your pet has been treated against endoparasites and ectoparasites within the previous 6 months.
The certificate must be typed- handwritten certificates will not be accepted.
Make no modifications to the wording in the document.
No abbreviations are permitted on the certificate, ie. months, years, states, etc.
The certificate must be printed on the accredited veterinarian's letterhead and must include the veterinarian's accreditation number.
It is also recommended to bring proof of ownership just in case you need it.
Is there any information that should be included on the Accredited Certificate that my vet writes for our pet?

First, be sure that the actual dates of vaccination appear on the health certificate. According to the USDA, your certificate for each pet must...

be presented in duplicate (you should always keep an extra copy!)
clearly state your name and address
include a complete description of your pet (species/age/sex)
state that your pet has been examined and found to be free of all contagious diseases
Are there any special requirements for dogs and cats that reside in the border region of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona or California?

Yes. According to the USDA:

Cats and dogs that travel back and forth through the border zone will be allowed to do so with an Accredited Veterinarian Certificate issued and signed by a licensed veterinarian residing at the border zone (US or Mexico). The certificate must be in official letterhead and include his or her license number.
The certificate will be valid for 6 months.
My puppy was born two months ago, and isn't old enough yet to have all of her shots yet. What should I do?

Mexico will exempt the rabies vaccination requirement if your puppy or kitten is under 3 months old.

Will my pets have to be quarantined when entering Mexico?

Your pets will NOT be placed in quarantine when entering Mexico, as long as you have the necessary paperwork with you.

My family is planning to stay in Mexico for a long time. What happens if my pet's vaccinations run out while we're there?

According to the CDC: Adult dogs older than 15 months of age that have previously received a rabies vaccination given no earlier than 3 months of age and that has since expired may be imported immediately following booster vaccination, without the need to wait for 30 days.

Dogs that have never received a rabies vaccination before must be vaccinated at least 30 days prior to arrival in the US.

Importation of dogs and cats into the US is regulated by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). According to the CDC, all domestic cats and dogs must show no evidence of disease that can be communicable to humans at the port of entry.

Even if all of your paperwork is in order, if your dog or cat does not look like it is in good health, further examination by a licensed vet (at your expense!) will be necessary before your dog or cat is allowed to re-enter the US!

Is it possible to get an International Certificate of Health and proof of vaccinations for my pets while I am in Mexico?

Yes, it is. For a small fee, you can get a Certificado Zoosanitario from a licensed Mexican veterinarian proving recent vaccination for rabies, triple canina and parvovirus. Remember that at least 30 days must pass after your pet is vaccinated before you may enter the US with it, or else you will have to place it in quarantine. The Mexican certificate of good health must indicate that your pet has been thoroughly checked out by a vet within the month (30 days) prior to your re-entry and clearly state that your pet is in good health. Any health certificate issued more than 30 days before your re-entry will not be accepted.

Can I bring my birds and ferret to Mexico?

Yes. Information can be found on the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service website.

Im not to worried about my old Chevy I’m takin down but do you guys with bad azz rigs have any special things you do for theft if your wandering away from van for restaurants/supermarket/shopping? Just a couple ideas even though everyone knows they are only onion layers...
1) the club for steering wheel, they can easily use bolt cutters on steering wheel itself like hot knife through butter.
2)ignition kill switch (only you know where it’s located, under seat etc)so even if they try to hot wire “no power”
3)alarm system which can be easily bypassed several different ways
4)emergency brake applied & turn wheels right or left all the way & lock steering so it can’t be easily towed
5) I thought some hardened chains/locks you could wrap around gas/brake pedal and back to seat frame so they couldn’t easily drive off without cutters or portable cut off
6) just covering dash with towel or blanket so they don’t see nice cb or stereo equipment etc(out of site seems to help if a trout doesn’t see a shiny lure they may not strike
7)I also usually leave $25.00 or so on my console so if A drug addict breaks in they will take it and leave instead of ripping out my amps etc out of desperation(theory only haha)
not sure how paranoid that sounds but for owners of expensive smb rigs or even rigs that have been hand built over the years that can never be easily replaced, this goes for camping in us etc,you hike or bike away hopin it’s there when you get back! If anybody else has ideas to add go for it! Like ufc fighting “defend yourself at all times” haha

I have items 1 through 3, and normally back into parking places to make towing away the van more difficult. I also have a gate latch on the inside of the rear doors so it's harder to get in by busting out the plastic license plate holder.
