Rifle River State Recreation Area

We took a short trip as our first outing of the year. We spent 4 days at the Rifle River State Recreation Area in central Michigan.

Our kitchen area......

The campground.....

View from observation tower... 1922 lodge site.

Drive down one of the interior roads (two way)..

The area was developed as a private shooting preserve in 1922. Up until 1945 Grousehaven was a private shooting preserve and game farm. It is now the 4500 acre Michigan recreation area known as the Rifle River State Recreation Area. It has 8 lakes and over 30 miles of trout streams in the recreation area as well as 4 campgrounds (one developed, three primitive).

For a five minute slide show show of our trip see:

Re: Rifle River State Recreation Area

I enjoyed your slideshow. The area looks very pretty and seems like you got excellent weather.
Thanks for sharing!

Re: Rifle River State Recreation Area

The doors are to small for them to get in and with the awning so low they can't get under it.
