Re: South Rim in October

For the record, nobody has to hike. Except me of course!

There will be plenty of firewood and sitting around the fire all day swapping lies is acceptable behavior!

Jaime, 4wd is not needed. I don't even know any 4wd trails around the South Rim. Anyone who came to Toroweap will tell you that I'm no good at organizing activities - other than a fire.

Bring you favorite beverage and expect to hear some strange 'bugling' sounds. If you don't know what makes that sound you will be shocked like we were when we figured it out.

Re: South Rim in October

I will travel from SF Bay area to the Grand Canyon South Rim via Zion, North Rim and ??

Probably the North Rim (if it is open) Oct 18/19 Backing up from there, Zion Oct 16/17.

Arrive South rim Oct 20, leave Oct 27 Site #63.

There are plenty of sites available at the South Rim. Check the reservation site:

http://www.recreation.gov/camping/Mathe ... dex=Search

It isn't the easiest site to use, but it gets the job done. Or you can call the toll free number at the top of the page.

Hope to see many of you there!

Come and enjoy the campfire.

Mike

Mac really likes the fact that he didn't have to organize anything for this!

See ya next month Mac!

Re: SMB Group Meeting - Grand Canyon

That is still my plan. I have reservations at the South Rim for those dates. The North Rim is somewhat flexible since it is after their season. Most everything on the North Rim is closed after Oct.15, water is off and some Porta-Potties in the campground.

Zion for sure (South Campground) and South Rim for sure.

I will leave California Sat or Sun and head to Zion.

Looking forward to seeing some new SMB owners and renewing some acquaintances.
