Spring Break Road Trip: Seattle to San Francisco - Any tips?
We are headed in April from Seattle to San Francisco. Any suggestions for camping stops or must see attractions along the way? We will stop at Buttercloud Bakery in Medford, OR for some biscuits and In & Out burgers once in CA. We plan to camp near Ashland, OR or Mt. Shasta. We will also stay a few days in Windsor, CA. We will have our 2 boys with us and pretty much staying on I-5 the whole way. Thank you.

If you're just trying to get of SF ASAP then I-5 is the way to go. But there's nothing to see there except the dirty back end of the semi in front of you.
On the other hand, if you're looking for a camping / touring vacation, then 101 is the way to go. And if you're going to Windsor then 101 is about the only way to go

Thanks Viejo and Pjmjunior. Yes, we are trying to get down to Windsor ASAP to enjoy the weather so need to stay on I-5. That I-5 stretch around Shasta is very dangerous with many accidents, so will be careful. Would you know the best way to cross over to Windsor from I-5? We want to avoid zig zagging roads if possible. Somewhere near or before Clear Lake?
Re: Spring Break Road Trip: Seattle to San Francisco - Any t
If you want to avoid winding roads then the best way is to come down I-5 all the way to the San Francisco turnoff (505 then 80) to Vallejo then up to Petaluma on 37 & 116 and then 101 north to Windsor.
This is the long way around and 40 miles farther than the Clear Lake route but only 3 min longer according to GoogleMaps and with few curves. The Clear Lake road could make a sailor sick.
