Wife and I are squeezing out for five days again this year for the fifth Turkey day on the road in a row. Still undecided between DV and Anza.

BUT!

East Mojave. Kelso Dunes, New York Mnts, Mitchel Caverns, Old Government Road, ect... sounds interesting and New! Got Maps?

Re: Thanksgiving Suggestions - Bushwack - Southern California

Really like The Mojave Reserve
done it twice, tons more to see

But mapped out DV
DV map and my Microsoft map

So Cal
Owl Canyon - 3 hour drive(overnite)
Baker to Shoshone
178 to Ashford mill 3 hour drive(overnite somewhere)
Up Badwater road to Furnace Creek
To Stovepipe 2 hour drive (overnite somewhere)
Emigrant, Wildrose
Mahogany Flat 1 hour drive (2 nites?)
to Redrock Canyon 2.5 hour drive (1 nite)
So Cal 3 hour drive home

3-4 hours driving per day (
Loose overnite locations
700 miles
$300 in gas
$100 in water, Rockstar, ingrediants for Mrs. Wilsons Thai food
$20 dollars in Blockbuster late fees
6 nites

Not having to take Blood Pressure medicine
OR paying an attorny and bailbond for aggravated assault.... Priceless

figures from Microsoft MapPoint 2010
assumption:
slower than average speed
6 city mpg
8 highwy mpg
$3.50 per gallon cost

OK,
How about the west Mojave? El Paso Mountains, Burro Smith Tunnel, Black Mountain paleo-religious site, ect... Is it Chukar hunting season in CA? If so bring shotgun.

In DVNP from the Ashford Mill try going up Warm Spring Canyon, up to Striped Butte Valley and over Mengal Pass down Goler Wash past the Barker Ranch ruins, down into Paniment Valley and Baleratt and over and up to Mahogany Flat and the Charcoal Kilns.

Re: Thanksgiving Suggestions - Bushwack - Southern California

as always JS a great routes
will see how the wife does on the route i have laid out
tons of stuff there to see
Chukar? 870 always ready

a little more consevative traveling solo
would want at least a Spot for the Ashford mill route
planning on a Spot and Sat phone

Purests might dissapprove
but w/ the wife that is not real outdoorsy
and at 55, not as spy as i once was, and of the age group to break something important
$1,000 is money well spent

hey, i even travel w/ my AED

Re: Thanksgiving Suggestions - Bushwack - Southern California

JS, we took almost the exact DV route you laid out only in reverse for T day 07. Great route!

BW, Thanks allot for the map info. Mojave preserve is seriously being considered. The others are jump-n-run no planning necessary. Finding time to plan will be the deciding factor I’m sure.

Thanks guys.
