Fantastic. It looks like about 50% of folks going are SMB forum members.

I heard my name......I would love to join, but unfortunately ain’t gonna happen this year, bad timing, plus reading the fine print, seeing as how this probably would’ve been a family affair, passengers must be 18.......
Still trying to figure out if my Kenwood with Garmin nav would be compatible to read these types of files?.....

Too Bad...Like Jeff we were hoping to see you again. I'm sure an exception would be made for Lake....as long as he wasn't piloting a dual sport!

Rally time is getting closer. If anyone wants an idea of what this rally is all about, Ted's friend Len published an arcticle in his Overland and Backcountry magazine about the 2017 rally, you can find it here:

https://www.outhereadventure.com/new...ing-rally-2017

If your signed up for the rally, but scare easily, you might want to skip reading it though. Hopefully, this years event will be a bit easier, but I plan to be fully prepared for anything. I wonder if I can make my van float?

Black flies...Mosquitos big enough to stand flat footed and mate with a turkey? Snorkels? Hip waders? Like Arctic Traveler I'm thinking floatation device. Will a Sprinter even float? Guess we will find out!

All kidding aside, I'm sure there will be some water crossings, but nothing like last year.

Hello everyone, I'm Len Toelke, the culprit who wrote about last years Roaming Rally. I just wanted to say that this year will be much less wet and the routes are not like what the Dual Sport guys had to endure in previous years. Ted has had some local help in sourcing this years rally and I think it's going to be an amazing trip.

I will pre apologise to all of you if I make you nuts with our photography. We love to get shots of vehicles traversing amazing scenery. So dont be surprised if we make you do something twice. I promise to share our professional images with you! And you get bragging rights if it gets posted.

As for bugs, I wouldn't worry too much. Off Skintastic is all we use. Sometimes just after dark they come out for an hour or so, and then they bugger off again. The shock wave created from Ted's snoring will likely kill off most of the bugs.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum Len. I must warn you though that as a former Syncro owner, you've already had the van bug and after you hang around here a while, your likely to catch it again. It's likely that after spending 10 days with a bunch of Sportmobiles, sleeping in a tent will seem far less attractive. If you didn't notice, there is a "classifieds" section here, where you can dream about your next van.

For those of you who are attending the rally, and those who want amazing maps.

BackRoad Mapbooks provide some of the best indepth maps for off road travel in Canada.

Their web site is Backroad Mapbooks - Backroad Recreational Books

These are the map books for the Roaming Rally 2018.

Kootenay Rockies BC - 7th Edition
Thompson Okanagan BC - 4th Edition
Cariboo Chilcotin Coast BC - 4th Edition
Vancouver, Coast & Mountains BC - 4th Edition

They can be bought online as PDF as well.

Cheers!

LOL.... You had better be careful or I'll crack your windows 1/2" to let the black-flies in at night!

I was raised in a van, owned 4 and just sold my Syncro (in indoor storage for 16 years)....After this Tacoma (5 more years) it's time for a Mega Van! We are planning our first Earth Cruiser. But that what happens when you have been exposed to all of this adventure travel for so long...You go broke! lol.
