Trip recommendation

We are taking the SMB from Santa Rosa to Phoenix to see the Giants play the Diamondbacks on 4/22, then I have tickets to see the Giants play the Padres in San Diego on 4/24. Looking for a nice leisurely one-day fun/scenic route and adventures between Phoenix and San Diego. Keep any trails ratings at 4/10 or below. Any ideas?

Thanks

Charlie - unfortunately I cannot help you with any possible side trips. However, just a word of warning, it is going to be really HOT between Phoenix and San Diego during that time of year. It is all desert.

If you need any advice for activities/food in San Diego, let me know.

Oh yea, one last thing....GO PADRES!

Yuma is awesome at the sand dunes. Don't know that I'd take an 11,000 lb vehicle into it but maybe you can rent something and go play.

Don't know that there is a whole lot else between them.
