OK everyone, since I had some awesome suggestions and help with last summer's trip, here we go again. We're leaving Tn middle of June and heading west for a couple of weeks, and we plan to be at the Jackson/Teton meet up in the middle of that. I'm looking for a little advice to fill in some gaps.
We'll be headed generally straight across to Denver and then hope to spend a little more time exploring south central Colorado this year. I suppose we will probably leave the Colorado Springs area and head across 50 towards Montrose. We would like to see the Gunnison/Black Canyon area and are looking for some pretty quiet camping in that area. The pics of the Black Canyon CGs don't look that great.
From there, we are going to head south to Silverton and rent a Jeep for a day to do the Alpine Loop. We are 2WD so we think this is the best way to get off road a little this trip. Any advice (specific rental co's or lodging etc. in this area) would be great.
We will probably drive down to Durango if we have time, but then will head North towards the Tetons by the end of our first week. I'm thinking we may head up 50 through Grand Junction then take 139 up to the Flaming Gorge area for a night. Then to Jackson. Any suggestions on this leg would be helpful.
From there we plan to wing it completely and explore. Perhaps over to the SLC area where we've never been, perhaps back down to the Moab/Canyonlands area. We will have our full 2nd week to drive less and camp/hike/bike more. Last year's 6000 mile trek to Yosemite was great but we tried to see too much and were wasted by the end of the trip.
Our plans aren't firm so if anyone has any suggestions anywhere near where we'll be please post em up!
Thanks
