Utah Freeze-Out

It's been too quiet on the Trip Reports section so i'll throw in a few pics.
My wife and I decided to take a quick trip west into Utah yesterday. We knew there was going to be snow but we were a bit surprised to find about a foot or more at one of our usual camp spots. Of course the area was deserted and we cut fresh tracks in the snow. It was incredible out there! The only downside was the fact that it got down to -6 degrees and froze the water lines despite the furnace running and having the cabinet doors open. Next summer I will be re-routing the lines to/from the water heater.

Wow that is cold. Did the heater keep it warm inside at those temps? Did you freeze the water in the cans in the aluminess tray? Did your van start in the am with those cold temps?

Re: Utah Freeze-Out

Saline,

Beautiful pictures, as much as I hate snow and cold. The pictures remind me of south central Montana where I am originally from.

Looks like Wyoming in the summer, where I am originally from. It once snowed two inches on the 4th of July in my home town. Try having your Independence Day picnic in that!

The furnace did keep it comfortable. It was running constant though so we ended up dropping the top for the night. I use Thermarest sleeping pads to insulate the PH canvas and they work great, but I didn't have enough of them to insulate the whole thing.
I only had two of the water cans 2/3's full, they froze solid. Even the dogs water dish in the side door footwell froze solid. I suppose camping in negative temps is at the limit in a SMB the way they are set up. I imagine I will insulate it a bit more in some of my later projects.
The van started fine, although it definitely did protest with some different sounds.

Re: Utah Freeze-Out

Spectacular pictures Josh! A little colder than I would care for, but looks like a great time.
