Thanks Jeff.

VivaLaVida continues her journey in the highlands, the remote center of Island.

143. The weather alternates rain showers and sunshine.

144. We go between several ice caps.

145. A little artificial lake along our path.

146. Ice cap.

147. Wide plains...

148. Snow shower.

149. ...

150. Cold desert...

151. Snow isn't far.

152. The trail.

153. Mosses of highlands.

154. Finally some blue sky.

155. Time for Emile to play outside.

156. Mountains.

157. Sunshine doesn't last long and VivaLaVida is soon in a snow storm.

158. Monochrome landscape.

159. VivaLaVida on the snowy trail.

160. Mix of lava and snow.

Second part of our highlands crossing in the next update.

Looking forward to your comments

Sorry about the poor quality of the pictures displayed. Automatic resizing ruins the quality but it's too much work to generate a specific picture size just for this thread...

Yeah when the site changed we lost those high def pics. Still your images capture the total beauty of the area. Perhaps link to your web site (if you still have one going) that displays better resolution at the end of the report. I'd go back and look.

Never even considered passing judgement on the photo quality... Your trip (along with several that a couple other Members have shared) have become the yardstick in which we find ourselves measuring some of our future "adventure" plans.
Your photos send my imagination on a journey - no doubt diluted compared to the actual experience, but i for one am content with that. Been enjoyable & inspiring...keep em coming!

It's time to wish you all Merry Christmas!

161. We slept near the ice cap...

162. ... in the middle of nowhere.

163. The trail was really rough, VivaLaVida drove at 3 mph for about 5 hours.

164. Then we were happy to find some flat!

165. ...

166. VivaLaVida crossed the black sand desert.

167. A sandy flat about 50 miles wide.

168. Then we hiked to the wellknown Viti of Askja.

169. It's located in a large caldera, part of which is a large lake.

170. You can see recent lava flows

171. This little volcanic lake have water at about 70F and you can swim in it.

172. Wide volcanic plains.

173. A famous Icelandic mountain looking like a cheese cake.

174. Refuge in Askja.

175. Powerfull river carving its way in the basalt.

176. Entrance of the canyon.

177. Large gravel bar.

178. Sunset from our boondocking site.

Looking forward to your comments.

Claude-Alain
