In the far North, near de Beaufort Sea and before the first freezing days mid August, it was almost impossible to stay near the campfire with repelent and head net. In the other places, it was ok.

Re: VivaLaVida in Yukon [updated 04/06/15, page 2]

Nice trip and great photos!
In one you show yourself with the winch cable running back to a tree. As I recall, your winch is in the front. Did you run it under the van? and do anything to protect against damage? I've often wondered if I could use my front winch to pull me backward, but I'd figure it would do a lot of damage to the front bumper and something important underneath the van.

Thx

No. I can move VLV's winch from front to back, so I can winch her from the back.

I just told my wife: "Hey, you know that Alaska trip I've been talking about for the past 3 years? It's going to be 2 months, not one."

Very nice!

It's been far too long since I've been up that way. I'm planning a trip for next year.

As I recall there was a hot springs between Skagway and Whitehorse. Did you stop for a soak?

I stopped but didn't soak since it was quite crowded that day.

All that time in AK on those dirt roads. How did you get the Mag Chl off the van? Must have had to do it often. That stuff is nasty.

Re: VivaLaVida in Yukon [updated 04/06/15, page 2]

Here a new update with some pictures of starting winter in october.

70. Freezing morning at Frenchman Lake.

[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

71. Morning sun playing in the clouds.

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

72. River starting to freeze.

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

73. Heading to Northwest Territories.

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

74. Yellow river in some snowy landscape.

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

75. Approaching the province border.

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

76. Another river.

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

77. Near the top of the pass, more than 150 miles away from any humain life, a blue streem.

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

78. At the border.

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

79. At a wildlife station, already closed for winter since two months. This was likely one of the most remote place VivaLaVida went to, more than 200 miles away from the nearest house. No one was there anymore.

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

80. Some frozen river crossing on the way back.

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

81. A snowstorm is approaching. Had to leave my camp at midnight since there was already more than on foot of snow on the ground and I couldn't take any risk to get stucked there!

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

82. A great eared owl the next day. I heard him during my lunch break and needed almost an hour to locate him.

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

83. Encounter on my way back to VivaLaVida...

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

84. Quite muddy road...

  • [list:2y710m98][list:2y710m98]
[/list:u:2y710m98][/list:u:2y710m98]

More to come... Hope to read some comments. ;-)
