White Rim: Third time's the Charm?

Oy. I've had reservations in '08 and '09. In '08 I hadta finish a project that had gone overtime, and in '09 the water pump on my 2002 SMB decided to fail THE DAY BEFORE I was to leave. Three years later, I've had reservations since August and Daveb was gonna meet me in Moab for two nights on the trail. So naturally I got sick--really sick. Mean, nasty, ugly sick. Much better now--on meds. Thought it best that Daveb not come because I'm still not sure I'm gonna make it, but I'm leaving tomorrow...

Ahh. Just in time for Red Rock's 4x4 Easter Jeep Safari. You would be lonely. It starts Saturday.

Is the road repaired now out of Mineral Bottom? Maybe it's been awhile and I just haven't heard but it got monstrously washed out a year or two ago.

Re: White Rim: Third time's the Charm?

Kewl, thanks for those links. Now I can kill my lunch hour getting caught up

I did some work for a start up uranium company in the Moab area a couple of years ago. Interestingly, enough the "hottest" spot we tested was not at any of the mines or any of the newer claims, but right there at the top of the road to Mineral Bottom. Where everyone stops to take a break after the climb up, especially the mtn bikers.

I presume that ore tumbling out of the trucks back in the 50s got incorporated into the road bed by graders or bulldozers. It must have required a lot of maintenance for all the traffic. Those miners were industrious for sure.

Re: White Rim: Third time's the Charm?

Hmm, climb up on the MTB was easier than expected when I rode it a few years ago, rode most of it twice to provide sag support, must be the uranium....? Glad to see it is open again, on the to do list with the kids one of these years.

Hope the third time works, its awesome, have fun.

Yeah, have fun. I especially like the southern tip of the White Rim trail. You can't get any more in the middle of canyonlands that that!

I love doing the White Rim, but haven't been able to go since I got my dog. They don't allow dogs in the backcountry.
