Certainly not, but Rick is hauling a trailer that pretty well limits him to organized campsites, and since I'm following him around for a couple weeks, I've spent more nights in campgrounds than I have the entire rest of my life. Never the less, Mrs A/T will be getting on an airplane on Wed, and I'll be heading out for more wild Alaska, no more campgrounds.

Right....I will add that if you want to be able to do anything in any town, like Seward or Homer for fishing charters or glacier tours, you’re pretty much regulated to having to spend the nights in the city “campgrounds”, which are often nothing more than gravel parking lots. We did spent a good number of nights boon docking on our drive up, but yes, dragging this trailer around has limited us some. A nice thing about the trailer is that we can drop it off and go explore and come back to a home base.....

This 90ft tall, 880 ft long wooden train trestle was completed in just eight winter days in 1911. Temps got as low as -67F. Now those are some tough working conditions.

The last few days I've had really good luck finding boondock sites. Two days ago I had to break out the saw and cut several fallen little trees to gain access, but I was rewarded with a great site just North of Laird River. No crowds, or noise. Yesterday's site might have been the camp site of the year. Access was sketchy at best though, a sigh warned the road was subject to flooding and it didn't lie. After pushing through a lot of brush and struggling to drive over a fallen tree, the road began to look more like a lake. I gave up and found a flat spot, but wanted to see what was past the flooded sections. I'm sure glad I did as it was a fantastic site just a few hundred yards further. I decided that since there were lots of trees, I could winch my way out if needed. Fortunately it wasn't too deep and I went right through. The road then began following a river and right at a bend it had washed away a section. I got out and looked, then decided to try it. I avoided falling in the river and ended up at an amazing River side camp site, complete with fire wood. I spent a quiet night to awaken to rain. I became afraid of the river rising and washing out more of the road, or further flooding so I departed immediately, but it wasn't problem. Another random road into the woods turns out to be a winner.
