Yellowstone this Summer

We're planning a trip to Yellowstone. Going up I-25, gonna check out Hell's Half Acre and then go in the East entrance. A week later we'll come out the South end, hit Ron in Jackson Hole, and head back towards Denver. If you're going to be in the area PM me and maybe we can meet up for a bit.

Also, suggestions are welcome- It's been a few years since we've been there.

Re: Yellowstone this Summer

Jage, are you doing the reservation thing?

It’s probably not the way you are planning to go, but I went through Medicine Bow’s Snowy Mountain range http://www.medicinebowtrails.com/medbow.htm that’s rated as one of the most scenic highways in the US. I thought it was a great drive and stayed at Willow CG between Medicine Bow and Centennial Wyoming. Don’t know about boon dock spots. From The Willow camp it’s about a 9 hour ride to The Tetons. I stayed at Lizard Creek CG which was OK as far as campgrounds go. There is one small first come first serve camp (Pacific Creek) that’s fairly remote close to Moran Junction but I never made it to the spot. I know Yellowstone’s a zoo but it was something I had to see. I only did the bottom loop and that took me 2 days so I have to go back. If you or anybody else knows about backcountry boon dock spots around either of the parks, I would like any info I can get as well.

Re: Yellowstone this Summer

We came back through Yellowstone on our way home from Alaska. Out of Cody we took 120/296 up to Cooke City, Montana and thought the route equal to anything we had seen in Northern Canada or Alaska. And it takes you into the less crowded Northeast corner of Yellowstone.

When it comes to Yellowstone, Homer Simpson's words of wisdom come to mind:

'It's all good!'

Re: Yellowstone this Summer

Jage,

I live up in Cody and am pretty familiar with Cooke City, Beartooths, and Cody. Shoot me a p.m. if you have any questions. Depending on your dates, I've got a few 'secret' spots worth checking out. If you need any help when you get to the area, I'll shoot you my number.

@2wheelbob
Hey Bob.
Cody is a real jewel of a town. It was like a oasis after driving all across Wyoming and some pretty desolate looking country side. Looks like it would be a good place to live. Had a nice vibe.

Re: Yellowstone this Summer

There is no boondocking in the Yellowstone NP ever. There are campgrounds but they are small not very nice and you have to have a res. most years they fill up a year in advance.
The words about Cooke City- Beartooth pass including Cody and Red Lodge are some of the nicest drives I been on in Wy. i do it every year at least once on the Harley. In Wy you can pull over into any pullout and spend the night if need be. and most are in great spots.

Dave,

SSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHH!!!!! Don't tell anyone!

Bob

P.S. - Thanks for the kind words. It is a neat town, albeit a bit too 'conservative' at times.
