Building a 600-650whp 2006 E350
My name is Austin and I own/operate a diesel service and performance shop in Round Rock, Texas. A man came in with a very clean ( body wise ) 2006 E350 with a crank no start issue. He couldn't afford to fix the van so I bought it for $1500. After some looking around on Google and YouTube I couldn't find anyone who did a serious build on a 6.0 van. So, I wanted to be the first or just another guy doing the same but better...
I WILL be putting 600-650 hp to the ground with around 50-55psi of boost.
Here is a list of the parts I have so far.
Borg Warner 69 SX-C
Custom down pipes
Industrial Injection R3 225cc / 100% over stock injectors
Power Stroke Products chromoly push rods
Power Stroke Products lifters
Power Stroke Products New heads that are a much heavier duty casting that stock ( the metal compound make up of a cummins head) They come with stainless valves and heavy duty valve springs. They are also fire ringed.
FASS Fuel System 200 gallon per hour
Aeromotive regulated return system
Stage 1 cam
Fly cut coated pistons
Stock rods
ARP rod bolts
ARP CA625 head studs
Block bored .20 over
SCT live wire with EGT probe and custom tuning
I'm sure this list will go on and on. I will be fab'ing up a custom intercooler, charge tubes and intake.
I am waiting on my pistons, the machine shop will balance the rotating assembly and I will be building in two weeks tops. 5/25/17

Wow, that sounds bada**. How are you going to deal with the heat it generates?

I really don't think heat is going to be an issue. That turbo flows ALOT of air. If things are getting too hot, I assume a water meth kit. I am going to wrap anything that puts off any kind of real heat.... also a hot side turbo jacket for heat as well.

Awesome, please show us what wrap and jacket you use. And the meth kit if necessary.
I've always read Ford detuned the diesels in vans because of heat. So if you're able to manage it with that much power, I think a lot of us will be pinging you.

Actually it's the other way around. Stock HP as designed by Navistar was 235HP. Ford changed the PCM strategy/tune and upped the HP on the F series to 330 HP in order to compete with the Duramax and Cummins. And then blamed the head gasket issues and warranty claims on Navistar International.

Ok so they upped it on the trucks but left it stock on the vans?

That's my understanding. My guess is they didn't really understand the heat issues anyway. Those largely come from a large diesel being jammed into a small engine bay. The cooling system, intercooler, and tranny cooler are all smaller. The vans are the bastard stepchild of the trucks.

Yup Joe has it right. So the vans have far less hard gasket issues, but still share all the other issues.
Much above 235 hp exceeds navistar's designed cylinder pressures.
