Can’t take the heat !! School Me !

Just returned from a trip to the Sierra’s, radio kept shutting down and would display heat warning. Removed the doghouse and found melted audio connectors. Right leg gets extremely hot and uncomfortable while driving, loud and noisy. I have a 2006 EB 50 Sporstmobile with a “Bulletproofed” 6 liter diesel.

A bit of work I've done which have helped some. Hard to quantify improvement though. I also highly recommend the 5-Star 50HP tow tune. That was one of the best things i ever did for my 6.0!

Quiet Ride Solutions has a kit that I used on my 6.0 that worked well I thought. I never had any radio overheating issues and it cooled off the heat seeping into the cabin as well as making things...well quieter. It comes with extra insulation for inside the dog house as well as insulation for inside the floor and fender walls. I'd also recommend wrapping the down pipe if it hasn't been done already.

I have an older 7.3, the floor gets too hot to drive barefoot or flipflops (both legal in the nanny state of California, go figure). My girl complains (mildly) about the passenger side radiating heat around her feet.

My engine compartment has a factory heat shield over the top of the turbo, I wonder if the 6.0 came with one from the factory, but someone removed it along it's life. I recently noticed that my accelerator pedal (plastic) is partially melted!

I'm working on a wrap around fiberglass heat shield 'pancho' solution, that covers the up-pipes and exhaust manifolds (but doesn't trap heat against the valve covers), to hold the heat in the pipes, and keep it off the floor and doghouse. I have most of the brackets fabricated, I just need to finish it up. I also bought an aftermarket fitted 'turbo blanket', to augment the factory turbo cover. I'll post up some pics of what I have, after I make a little more progress.

Thanks, I drove in my brother in laws 7.3 yesterday from LA to Prescott AZ, difference is night and day both in quietness and heat transfer. I’m hoping my doghouse was installed incorrectly, can’t figure out why it generated enough heat to melt my audio connectors. I plan on redoing the insulation on the doghouse. Have you ever heard of wrapping the down pipe with exhaust wrap?

Yes, people wrap the down pipe a lot. Turbo too. Scroll to the bottom of page 3 on BullGator's 6.0 thread for a bunch of pics.

Please report back on the installation process and results after driving with it a while.

Thanks!

Soooooo...installed the PTP blanket. Had to ask the manufacturer how to install because the instructions are not written for a 6.0 turbo. Have not driven the van yet, but the predominant outcome from reading other forums is better performance, and cooler (somewhat) engine bay.

There's a round protrusion on the upper rear side of the turbo that prevents the blanket from being pulled snug, along with the standoffs for the stock heat shield (picture from KCTurbo site - https://kcturbos.com/collections/6-0...1-61mm-turbo):
