Disc brake myths, management, and information.

After destroying one of my high performance “Storm rotors” I did a little research and found this article. It covers break-in procedures and problems with heat related issues such as brake fade, warped rotors but more important to me was finding you should annually replace the brake fluid; something I was not aware of. I did find it well worth reading.

So much for my annual New Year’s trip to Death Valley

Re: Disc brake myths, management, and information.

sorry to hear buddy

hey, what brakes do you have?

i did a google and found:
http://brakeperformance.com/site/brake_ ... &ad=google

i have to put my entire foot on the brake and really pay attention in traffic

anyone here have experiance with aftermarke rotors and pads?

dont want to put in the super duty brakes
but the price for the above package installed
would be @ $800 by my guestimate

alot cheaper than rear ending someone....

Brakeman offers an upgrade for heavy duty applications. I found a difference in performance but at about $1K you might not feel it’s worth the price. I’m sure there are other solutions out there.

There are also several archives on the Forum that discuss brake issues as well as on the Yahoo Owners Group. YMMV

Re: Disc brake myths, management, and information.

Rob, the $4000 upgrade is a rotor and caliper change and I believe requires going to 17+ inch rims but to make sure you might call them. All I went with was heat teated rotors and high grade pads. You can pick up quite a bit of info here if you type in "brakeman" on the site search feature. Good Luck.

Daveb's Stoptech.com article should be mandatory reading for everyone who drives. Really good article...

Re: Disc brake myths, management, and information.

I had SMB do the brakeman rotor and pad upgrade about 3 months ago. Cost about $1k.

IMHO, it was money well spent. Not a huge difference, but noticeable. I drive the SMB like a big truck, but want the odds in my favor when it comes to brakes.

Re: Disc brake myths, management, and information.

That's my view also. I don't want to lead anybody to think the Brakeman upgrade is a total solution to the problem with stopping a heavy vehicle like an SMB. Each has its own weight and is unique. I PMed BW about this. The big thing is YV'sMV. For myself, I felt it was worth the upgrade. Other upgrades might be out there that are better...I just don't know. I posted the link because this is a section for project write up, identifcations of known issues, and their resolutions , so the link kinda fit.
