Doghouse Console

I had to replace my doghouse console (just the cup holder/door part) since the door broke. While it's off, I'm considering adding some insulation for sound deadening and thermal resistance.

Yes, I know it's not as good as doing the whole doghouse but that's a project for another day.

Anyway, I have a lot of the bubble wrap foil left over and I can use that with some 3M adhesive to attach it to the inside. Or, I was thinking about using some household expanding spray foam.

Thoughts? Comments? Concerns?

Thanks!

I think the foil bubblewrap will provide some level of heat insulation, but I don't think it will provide much sound deadening. You can buy the self-stick audio insulation (many are foil backed) but the stuff isn't cheap.

If you can afford the cost, do it once and do it right.

I'd stay away from spray foam. That area gets hot and you might be smelling it forever. I did mine with dynamat and hunks of blue foam insulation boards:

Uhhhh, it never got done... The guy who was going to do it was busy when I checked with him, and then I never got back to it. So, I have a nice shiny silver doghouse for now...

That's actually the main reason I didn't try to follow in your footsteps- I knew I'd never wind up getting it covered.
