Heat Treatment 2-Dynamatting the Console

The original plan was to remove the factory lining and dynamat underneath, but it turns out there is already a dynamat type treatment underneath, and I didn't want to mess with the rivits or have it not go back properly.

I pulled back the corners and slipped about a notebook sized piece of dynamat in and then removed the back in place.

The hood of my Jeep became the new workbench. Have I mentioned 6 times yet that I don't really have a workshop?

Next I did the under of the console.

And the inside of the console.

Each drink holder got its own dynamat strips and then the surrounding area go stuffed with wallboard insulation.

The cat was exhausted from watching me work all day.

For some reason "StuffOnMyCat.com" always turns down my entries...

The foam got covered with Dynamat- this is where it really shines, like big sticky aluminum tape.

And installed!

Hopefully between the little side sheets and the inside the console patchwork the leg area will be a little cooler, and certainly my sodas won't cook in their holders anymore.

I think someone needs to check in on Jage. It looks like he has totally dissembled his SMB and rewired everything including the cat. It could be that he has too much free time on his hands, or he has become over caffeinated.

Or it could be that Halloween is having a funny effect on him!

Have you noticed a decrease in noise level?

I prefer that console to the one they replaced it with. I need to see if I can find a grey one somewhere.

It seems ever so slightly better, but I think it's more in the tightening of the console than actual engine noise decrease, and I've only moved it around the driveway since...

Buji,

Do you also have the open space console? I also like the old style that has more of glove box to it.

I'm on my second trip since doing this and it seems quieter. Actually it seems bassier. I can tell that my leg doesn't get as hot either, although it's still warm down there.

The cup holders don't get hot at all but the center rectangular hole does. I was confused by this until I realized that hot air radiates out of the gap above the console below the radio.

I'm really happy with the results, and thus far wouldn't change a thing.

Funny... I also use the hood of my Jeep as a workbench.

Yeah, on one hand I can see how it's easier to slide your feet around that area with it being open, but I think I'd rather have the close-able cubby.

Also, I hate that they got rid of the coin containers.

I'm just looking for a way to stop the heat toward the radio.
